Hello! Today's post will be in Finnish, about my coming workshops.
</br></br>
Moi! Opetan taas tänä keväänä mixed media -askarteluja Vantaan aikuisopistossa. Kurssiohjelma on uudistunut ja ajattelin siksi tehdä pienen esittelypostauksen kustakin kurssista erikseen.
</br></br>

Happy November, too, since this is my first post this month. The darkest time of the year is falling upon us but I have a pretty bright journal spread here to cheer it up.
</br></br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfKsq-4QMph0YuTDVlJhCjYIN3vXdJQWKw_MVul1BHLzCIDAwJIo_RU_3h1YUjUTO9Q4yC9Abe2PAeY3JNaLUJFAdmNWixCe4trsaw50CLyyPsITP-g1iNNDPn6j3ZuuCSx04q1chlkBU/s1600/image+transfer+journal+page+640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfKsq-4QMph0YuTDVlJhCjYIN3vXdJQWKw_MVul1BHLzCIDAwJIo_RU_3h1YUjUTO9Q4yC9Abe2PAeY3JNaLUJFAdmNWixCe4trsaw50CLyyPsITP-g1iNNDPn6j3ZuuCSx04q1chlkBU/s1600/image+transfer+journal+page+640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="643" /></a>
</br></br>
Inspired by the October Challenge at <a href="http://www.everything-art.com/">Wanderlust Class 2017</a>, I tried image transfer with acrylic medium for the first time. I have previously tried packing tape transfer and found it fun. Here, I was excited to see the image lifting directly onto the page, whereas in the tape method the tape remains visible and you need to glue it down.
</br></br>
The images I have used here are inkjet printed and my medium was Liquitex acrylic matte medium.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j5XmUNDXPCk/WfsZVqNJfQI/AAAAAAAAKcI/0CF6VoJkWtcnwomBJTXtgVYooYMemUVEACLcBGAs/s1600/stitch%2Baround%2Bfocal%2Bimage%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j5XmUNDXPCk/WfsZVqNJfQI/AAAAAAAAKcI/0CF6VoJkWtcnwomBJTXtgVYooYMemUVEACLcBGAs/s1600/stitch%2Baround%2Bfocal%2Bimage%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="618" /></a>
</br></br>
You can see I have used two different sized transfers of the same vintage image, showing a mysterious woman with daisies and a veil.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--myD9KhJo7A/WfsZRJu7w8I/AAAAAAAAKb4/Ub6VeaUzqHgucqIUVjgP4L7RQkiKjrW-wCLcBGAs/s1600/feathers%2Band%2Bdoodles%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--myD9KhJo7A/WfsZRJu7w8I/AAAAAAAAKb4/Ub6VeaUzqHgucqIUVjgP4L7RQkiKjrW-wCLcBGAs/s1600/feathers%2Band%2Bdoodles%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="480" /></a>
</br></br>
I had prepared a background on my square Dylusions Creative Journal collaging bits of gelli printed and die cut book pages, and then added acrylic paint.
</br></br>
What happened with the transfer was that it seemed easy at first but then I did rub too hard and lost quite a few pieces. This was my first try, directly onto the journal background. Luckily, I had printed a smaller version of the same image and tried it on a separate painted paper, and it worked better!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m5PxcvH1Cd4/WfsZVjOWGFI/AAAAAAAAKcE/5-nLAlyp4Y05IqGCcF1Jv8RW4r16MEgTQCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bpage%2Bwith%2Bimage%2Btransfer%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m5PxcvH1Cd4/WfsZVjOWGFI/AAAAAAAAKcE/5-nLAlyp4Y05IqGCcF1Jv8RW4r16MEgTQCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bpage%2Bwith%2Bimage%2Btransfer%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="480" /></a>
</br></br>
I didn't want to give up my background and taking a second look at it, I came to think that the smaller image on the orange piece of paper might look cool mounted on the side of the more broken image, so this is what I did.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kdJdaox6iQI/WfsZVqbNhOI/AAAAAAAAKcA/wcBoZxhIgQsnZVTHdDsAcUH2VGGQTLoKwCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bpage%252C%2Blace%2Bcolored%2Bwith%2Bgelatos_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kdJdaox6iQI/WfsZVqbNhOI/AAAAAAAAKcA/wcBoZxhIgQsnZVTHdDsAcUH2VGGQTLoKwCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bpage%252C%2Blace%2Bcolored%2Bwith%2Bgelatos_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="432" /></a>
</br></br>
At the same time I was trying to learn from a recent lesson by Kasia Avery at Wanderlust 2017, about the use of Black and White as Contrasts, and how they can work to calm down or unify a page with many colors. I think the final spread is still slightly too busy/colorful for my mood at the moment, but I didn't have time to work it any longer, wanting to make the challenge deadline.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4udYmg1Oih0/WfsZR1cG3nI/AAAAAAAAKb8/PaPQYEw3m_gmiO-lvRnuIUF4hYi0gtw1QCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bpage%2Bfeathers%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4udYmg1Oih0/WfsZR1cG3nI/AAAAAAAAKb8/PaPQYEw3m_gmiO-lvRnuIUF4hYi0gtw1QCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bpage%2Bfeathers%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="568" /></a>
</br></br>
I also used some lace and machine stitching as effects. The (originally white) lace had been used as a stencil in Gelli printing, so it already had those cool darker and lighter areas. Then some Gelatos around the edges, plus some black stamping, marker and white paint pen. I love the image, she reminds me of a good fairy with a secret that makes her smile!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0Y65dITCXw/WfsZRHtP1DI/AAAAAAAAKbw/83mg34VQCtI2tTAAE6Ug_ZMncTy0GZJpgCLcBGAs/s1600/feathers%2Band%2Bstamping%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q0Y65dITCXw/WfsZRHtP1DI/AAAAAAAAKbw/83mg34VQCtI2tTAAE6Ug_ZMncTy0GZJpgCLcBGAs/s1600/feathers%2Band%2Bstamping%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="640" /></a>
</br></br>
The image, by the way, is printed from <a href="https://thegraphicsfairy.com/">The Graphics Fairy</a>, who offers thousands of good quality copyright-free vintage images for free. (There is also a paid Premium membership option, but I haven't felt the need for it so far. It would especially benefit someone working digitally, since it offers a lot of special effects for editing programs). </br></br>This site is a great resource for finding images for transfer techniques, and its search engine helps to find images in the theme that you want.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ou4ilqpxbOc/WfsZRjSh6fI/AAAAAAAAKb0/xwbCIt7POpoDogLg99y7eepjk5bU5k19gCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bimage%2Btransfer%2Bstamping%2Band%2Bdoodles%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ou4ilqpxbOc/WfsZRjSh6fI/AAAAAAAAKb0/xwbCIt7POpoDogLg99y7eepjk5bU5k19gCLcBGAs/s1600/journal%2Bimage%2Btransfer%2Bstamping%2Band%2Bdoodles%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="516" /></a>
</br></br>
I am also linking my project to this week's challenge at Take a Word. The theme is <a href="http://takeaword.blogspot.fi/2017/10/take-word-family-albums.html">Family Albums</a>, meaning the use of old photos to create some altered art. Photos from other sources are ok, if you don't have family photos, says the challenge guideline.
</br></br>
Happy weekend everyone and thanks for taking a look!

Here's my art journal spread inspired by the September challenge at <a href="http://morethanwordschallenge.blogspot.fi/2017/09/september-2017-main-challenge-fearless.html">More than Words</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y5RxG_4hsuM/Wc_PLUIM19I/AAAAAAAAKY4/GxYEP20URYkZkdqmrWVqtZmRMXpNHUpDACLcBGAs/s1600/Fearless%2BGraffiti%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="429" data-original-width="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y5RxG_4hsuM/Wc_PLUIM19I/AAAAAAAAKY4/GxYEP20URYkZkdqmrWVqtZmRMXpNHUpDACLcBGAs/s1600/Fearless%2BGraffiti%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I am constantly inspired by the GRUNGY look of graffiti and the way the bright colours pop out in an asphalt and concrete landscape. But graffiti is not just a style, it's also a way to spread out a political message + a voice of rebellion, and that's the kind of graffiti I was particularly thinking of when I created this mixed media collage. I admire the FEARLESS work of graffiti artists, many of whom have had to work in circumstances where the authorities are very hostile towards street art. I've been happy to see in the past few years that many towns and cities have began to value street art in a totally new way!

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H1V-glaAr1g/Wb5lN84wt5I/AAAAAAAAKWM/VsQXlbJ5pGM5xnzTDecl33WGPwcMhnjeQCLcBGAs/s1600/neutral%2Bset_square_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H1V-glaAr1g/Wb5lN84wt5I/AAAAAAAAKWM/VsQXlbJ5pGM5xnzTDecl33WGPwcMhnjeQCLcBGAs/s1600/neutral%2Bset_square_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="640" /></a>
</br></br>
I began my collage background from some magazine images with flower pods and leaves in a wintery garden. These lead me to think of autumn, early winter even, after a first snowfall perhaps. So I ended up with a palette of white and shades of brown and yellow.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9b8Yb8vQBAE/Wb5lE1GwnFI/AAAAAAAAKWI/JrsqkPgXbQgic8xykfa0RyYxE8Azd8VgACLcBGAs/s1600/nature%2527s%2Bneutrals%2Bset%2B2_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9b8Yb8vQBAE/Wb5lE1GwnFI/AAAAAAAAKWI/JrsqkPgXbQgic8xykfa0RyYxE8Azd8VgACLcBGAs/s1600/nature%2527s%2Bneutrals%2Bset%2B2_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="514" /></a>
</br></br>
I added torn paper scraps from book pages and paintings I no longer wanted to keep, and then used gesso to fade the edges.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oz9hdjkaA5s/Wb5m1u64swI/AAAAAAAAKXM/uM8aNor7MmMJjnxdzHbYKWRNCegaNnHNwCLcBGAs/s1600/nature%2527s%2Bneutrals%2B1_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oz9hdjkaA5s/Wb5m1u64swI/AAAAAAAAKXM/uM8aNor7MmMJjnxdzHbYKWRNCegaNnHNwCLcBGAs/s1600/nature%2527s%2Bneutrals%2B1_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="870" /></a>
</br></br>
The edges are coloured with Distress Ink colors Brushed Corduroy and Black Soot.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8m1bz_Sbq98/Wb5m1vGgt3I/AAAAAAAAKXI/kgXmGmKDjn43tjxyrK1nBA95goF3ltGEwCLcBGAs/s1600/nature%2527s%2Bneutrals%2B2_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8m1bz_Sbq98/Wb5m1vGgt3I/AAAAAAAAKXI/kgXmGmKDjn43tjxyrK1nBA95goF3ltGEwCLcBGAs/s1600/nature%2527s%2Bneutrals%2B2_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="895" /></a>
</br></br>
For embellisments, I chose mistable fabric stickers that I tinted with different yellows and browns, and Wycinanka chipboards that I embossed with WOW embossing ink, color Earthtone Nutmeg.
</br></br>

</br></br>
These cards went for a swap, but I'll let you know in the blog if I make more in same style for trade later on!

Today's post will be in Finnish, about my coming workshops.
</br></br>
Hei kaikki! Minulla on tulevana syksynä ilo ja kunnia opettaa jälleen mixed media -askarteluja Espoon työväenopistossa ja lisäksi uutena opetuspaikkana Vantaan aikuisopistossa.
</br></br>

Vastaan mieluusti kysymyksiin myös sähköpostitse, salla.porra (at) saunalahti.fi.

Today I'd like to share with you couple of fun summer challenges that I can recommend for anyone who feels inspired to art/journal but maybe has just a few minutes for it daily, which was often the case for me this summer!
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--4L7qCOKwwc/WYt3mv2SooI/AAAAAAAAKTQ/rTmq1fmL7UI8QJF2g6GLFTF2azDae3RsgCLcBGAs/s1600/spread%2Bwith%2Bdoor%2Band%2Bleaves%252C%2Baccordion_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--4L7qCOKwwc/WYt3mv2SooI/AAAAAAAAKTQ/rTmq1fmL7UI8QJF2g6GLFTF2azDae3RsgCLcBGAs/s1600/spread%2Bwith%2Bdoor%2Band%2Bleaves%252C%2Baccordion_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="379" /></a>
</br></br>
DeeDee Catron and Jenn Engle's <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/2017/08/moodiversary-linkup-week-three.html">Moodiversary</a> uses the same mood board for the whole month, but there is a new link-up for prizes every week. My link is to Week 3, which will expire within a day, but you'll find Week 4 in <a href="http://deedeecatron.blogspot.fi/">DeeDee's blog</a> when the time comes.</br></br>
The delicious Moodiversary Board is here and the reason for the challenge is to celebrate the first year of DeeDee and Jenn's monthly inspiration posts called Mixed Media Moods. So the inspiration will continue after this month, on their blogs and YouTube channels.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TBPj5kq-8pc/WYtyQHed3QI/AAAAAAAAKSs/2giRxwFR708O-5X2KgfAI-zg7Znp3CpsQCLcBGAs/s1600/deedee%2Bcatron%2Bmoodaversary%2Bmood%2Bboard.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TBPj5kq-8pc/WYtyQHed3QI/AAAAAAAAKSs/2giRxwFR708O-5X2KgfAI-zg7Znp3CpsQCLcBGAs/s1600/deedee%2Bcatron%2Bmoodaversary%2Bmood%2Bboard.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="908" /></a>
</br></br>
I was inspired by the organic forms of the skeleton leaves and the tree on the bottom row, and the door one row up. Plus all the colours of the challenge, but particularly the yellow paint shade, Pollen, and Royal Fuchsia and Desert Turquoise.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tbIBBOGe_g0/WYt8FEDPHgI/AAAAAAAAKTc/yV1zizUFyPI1yK2C22BcRaHHgB3Ej44xACLcBGAs/s1600/spread%2Bwith%2Bdoor%2Band%2Bleaves_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tbIBBOGe_g0/WYt8FEDPHgI/AAAAAAAAKTc/yV1zizUFyPI1yK2C22BcRaHHgB3Ej44xACLcBGAs/s1600/spread%2Bwith%2Bdoor%2Band%2Bleaves_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="312" /></a>
</br></br>
Rae Missigman's <a href="http://rae-missigman.squarespace.com/blog/2016/12/13/art-journal-peek-1-cgc28">Art Marks - A 30 Day Summer Challenge</a> has a prompt word for each day, and the challenge encourages you to only use a set time, say 5-10 minutes, to "make your marks" each day. You can find the prompts list at Rae's blog.
</br></br>
I've been catching up with the prompts in no particular order - maybe some prompts felt more ready than others to emerge from the different backgrounds of each side in my mini book, actually!
</br></br>
Here's Day 9, Free Form:
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R8bCaLtImIk/WYt3I4_T_KI/AAAAAAAAKTI/de65kyoANvYxUuDjD98FKpQX4akclw8qACLcBGAs/s1600/free%2Bform_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R8bCaLtImIk/WYt3I4_T_KI/AAAAAAAAKTI/de65kyoANvYxUuDjD98FKpQX4akclw8qACLcBGAs/s1600/free%2Bform_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="640" /></a>
</br></br>
Day 20, Scratched:
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BFzTnLhhjls/WYt2r-T1DtI/AAAAAAAAKTE/1n2bqmGGaXYvR_wfILbnGcfnJ1nHXBiRwCLcBGAs/s1600/scratched_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BFzTnLhhjls/WYt2r-T1DtI/AAAAAAAAKTE/1n2bqmGGaXYvR_wfILbnGcfnJ1nHXBiRwCLcBGAs/s1600/scratched_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="640" /></a>
</br></br>
Day 16, Mirrored. This is not in the same 3 1/2x3 1/2 inches mini album as the others. I wanted to experiment with a slightly larger format so this is another junk journal, about 6x8 in size.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fzWfa_dLIrY/WYt3I-OJCjI/AAAAAAAAKTM/mxdSrNU1S3sMjmD7JZ1gxfXumNQOxd_hwCLcBGAs/s1600/mirrored_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fzWfa_dLIrY/WYt3I-OJCjI/AAAAAAAAKTM/mxdSrNU1S3sMjmD7JZ1gxfXumNQOxd_hwCLcBGAs/s1600/mirrored_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="640" /></a>
</br></br>
What could suit the Mirrored prompt better than this good old way of printing on both sides of a spread/folded paper, that many have surely have done as kids! I added some pencil and carbon on the one side of the spread to make my butterfly not completely mirrored, to reflect the idea that a mirror does not show everything there is.
</br></br>
Day 17 prompt of Dripped is the last for today!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w67SKAq6_oM/WYt2ryl4iZI/AAAAAAAAKTA/HnRFmxR72QIH2X0r5iPV1IrDw5IndMZAwCLcBGAs/s1600/dripped_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-w67SKAq6_oM/WYt2ryl4iZI/AAAAAAAAKTA/HnRFmxR72QIH2X0r5iPV1IrDw5IndMZAwCLcBGAs/s1600/dripped_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="663" /></a>
</br></br>
I made my mini album specifically with these quick challenges in mind. It is an accordion book and the page size is 3 1/2 inches. I'll be back another day to show more of how it looked in the beginning, what different papers I used for backgrounds, and so on!
</br></br>
On the pages next to Free Form, you can see that some background papers are more finished than others, and I may want to keep them as they are. But more about that later.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E4VTnc3lhuE/WYt9-mNmw2I/AAAAAAAAKTo/cO4fJb6PuakpP7-lwLKL0mL0HFO89EXhwCLcBGAs/s1600/free%2Bform_accordion%2Bbook_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E4VTnc3lhuE/WYt9-mNmw2I/AAAAAAAAKTo/cO4fJb6PuakpP7-lwLKL0mL0HFO89EXhwCLcBGAs/s1600/free%2Bform_accordion%2Bbook_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="366" /></a>
</br></br>
And the covers, oh, they are such a fun idea even if I say so myself. The size of 3 1/2 inches might ring a bell to folks around my age or older, that is, those of us who already used a computer before the year 2000. Let's see if anyone can guess what I used.
</br></br>
Thank you for popping in and commenting, as always!

Here's what I made for an ATC swap here in Finland, themed Mixed Media Summer and organized by <a href="http://jehkotar.blogspot.fi/">Taru</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fwnXa39SOco/WW3sQpOMAHI/AAAAAAAAKRM/bwbEoVDZ3jAcNeXOr_OqNJrsknHyMZGIwCLcBGAs/s1600/lilyofthevalley%2B6%2Bcards_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fwnXa39SOco/WW3sQpOMAHI/AAAAAAAAKRM/bwbEoVDZ3jAcNeXOr_OqNJrsknHyMZGIwCLcBGAs/s1600/lilyofthevalley%2B6%2Bcards_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="600" /></a>
</br></br>
I had plenty of gelli prints with summery colours, so I began to work my backgrounds from them. I also added some mists in different shades of green, and was happy with the colour palette that reminds me of a summer evening just before dark.
</br></br>
For inspiration, I had several challenges, starting with <a href="http://mixedmediaplace.blogspot.fi/2017/06/june-challenge.html">Mixed Media Place</a> and their gorgeous mood board, also with a feel of a summer evening.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3oFT9P-Y5y4/WW5kXQWZpVI/AAAAAAAAKRg/PU7WRLU7os406SJOfr0KFrz-ZvQxCK53ACLcBGAs/s1600/moodboard-mmp-06-2017_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3oFT9P-Y5y4/WW5kXQWZpVI/AAAAAAAAKRg/PU7WRLU7os406SJOfr0KFrz-ZvQxCK53ACLcBGAs/s1600/moodboard-mmp-06-2017_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="640" /></a>
</br></br>
The mood board has some delicate white flowers and seeds, and I decided to decorate my ATCs with lily-of-the-valley shaped chipboards from Wycinanka.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QTIh6BEfBWg/WW3qnklJrmI/AAAAAAAAKQ4/3Da_nfT_aiwhaRjsgc0IdiBHOecbUUKFwCLcBGAs/s1600/lilyofthevalley_detail_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QTIh6BEfBWg/WW3qnklJrmI/AAAAAAAAKQ4/3Da_nfT_aiwhaRjsgc0IdiBHOecbUUKFwCLcBGAs/s1600/lilyofthevalley_detail_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="393" /></a>
</br></br>
Before glueing them in place, I gessoed the chipboards to make them completely white and heat embossed them with an embossing powder that has a particularly lovely golden white shade. It's called Angel Wings Gold by Lindy's Stamp Gang, and it is indeed white with a hint of gold. The colour was very hard to catch in the photos, I'm afraid. But try them if you get a chance. I only have a couple of Lindy's powders but they both are this kind, shining in two different colours and with a high gloss, enamel-looking finish.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K9YmJWWTofw/WW3v0CeuvnI/AAAAAAAAKRU/FzxyPaDApI0HL_NOOtsv4V0zzZaqqnZkwCLcBGAs/s1600/lilyofthevalley%2B3%2Bcards_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K9YmJWWTofw/WW3v0CeuvnI/AAAAAAAAKRU/FzxyPaDApI0HL_NOOtsv4V0zzZaqqnZkwCLcBGAs/s1600/lilyofthevalley%2B3%2Bcards_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="287" /></a>
</br></br>
At <a href="http://art-piaskownica.blogspot.fi/2017/06/style-styl-stemplowany-edycja.html">Art-Piaskownica</a>, the challenge theme was Stamping. </br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yeVas5dwyJE/WW5qv430P1I/AAAAAAAAKRk/Ud0sj8dX9j48VDJ5Way1bPtEFr1q35CQwCLcBGAs/s1600/art-piaskownica%2Bstamping%2Bchallenge.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yeVas5dwyJE/WW5qv430P1I/AAAAAAAAKRk/Ud0sj8dX9j48VDJ5Way1bPtEFr1q35CQwCLcBGAs/s1600/art-piaskownica%2Bstamping%2Bchallenge.jpg" data-original-width="400" data-original-height="399" /></a>
</br></br>
The stamped part in my project are the dark blue leaves. I first stamped them on a tissue paper, tore pieces of it and glued them in place with acrylic medium.
</br></br>
I have previously used stamped tissue paper on my <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/search/label/beeswax">beeswax</a> collages, and recently I realized they are a cool thing to add to other mixed media projects, too. The white tissue paper becomes invisible and the stamp shows very well, even on uneven surfaces where it would be harder to stamp directly. You can also prepare these papers in advance, if you feel like trying some new stamps but can't think of a project just then, for example.
</br></br>

</br></br>
My biggest inspiration of this year has been the year-long <a href="http://www.everything-art.com/Wanderlust2017/">Wanderlust 2017</a> online class. I've started more projects than finished but at this point, this doesn't feel like a failure at all but instead one of the main teachings of the whole class so far. </br></br>When I feel good making art, the important thing is to do it as often as I can, and not count the finished projects. This goes at least for the kind of period as I have in my life right now - my to-do-list seems very full also without art deadlines and blog posts. The main thing I'm sorry for is that this has also meant neglecting my blog.
</br></br>
Anyway, today I have a Wanderlust inspired project to share!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bdg0U0dWbeo/WSaJftht2XI/AAAAAAAAKOk/2jpTvGBImQwbSO833tDR87nlN3jW_jliACLcB/s1600/nature%2Bprints%2Bspread_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bdg0U0dWbeo/WSaJftht2XI/AAAAAAAAKOk/2jpTvGBImQwbSO833tDR87nlN3jW_jliACLcB/s1600/nature%2Bprints%2Bspread_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="446" /></a>
</br></br>
A while ago the class theme was Nature Prints. Kasia Avery, the sweet and super talented main teacher of Wanderlust 2017, inspired us with a video of Gelli printing with objects from the nature. </br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LUzyTKgu8cY/WSaJR4GIDBI/AAAAAAAAKOc/fJnIMDPmd7wHtJeOQrVPbLAUUOXu5bCYwCLcB/s1600/spread%2B1_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LUzyTKgu8cY/WSaJR4GIDBI/AAAAAAAAKOc/fJnIMDPmd7wHtJeOQrVPbLAUUOXu5bCYwCLcB/s1600/spread%2B1_640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="387" /></a>
</br></br>
I've used household items for Gelli printing before but hadn't thought of trying something like flowers or leaves. I got really hooked on it right away so I was lucky to have picked plenty of different leaves with the help of our three-year-old! It was a good idea to let them straighten overnight between a newspaper, under a weight of books or something.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vV9tp0ayoMg/WSaKIU9e3gI/AAAAAAAAKOs/92OgWo73MIsaFil__5OQjEbXOifkfnMDwCLcB/s1600/detail%2Bfrom%2Bdown%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vV9tp0ayoMg/WSaKIU9e3gI/AAAAAAAAKOs/92OgWo73MIsaFil__5OQjEbXOifkfnMDwCLcB/s1600/detail%2Bfrom%2Bdown%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="480" /></a>
</br></br>
I still have some of those leaves from a week ago but I suspect they may get too dry at some point, becoming more fragile, so I may want to gather new ones for my next prints.

</br></br>
The last few photos are detail shots where you can get a better idea of the see-through beeswax technique!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T26zlNbMl7o/WSaJQ_m4HrI/AAAAAAAAKOE/riV1LmIOPHYe-Q1p_UKEPc9rxcZ7mtRIwCLcB/s1600/detail%2Bbeeswax%2B3%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T26zlNbMl7o/WSaJQ_m4HrI/AAAAAAAAKOE/riV1LmIOPHYe-Q1p_UKEPc9rxcZ7mtRIwCLcB/s1600/detail%2Bbeeswax%2B3%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="584" /></a>
</br></br>
I made my prints on tissue paper, wanting to try them for the beeswax collage technique I've done a lot lately. Beeswax technique is so special in how it leaves the different layers quite transparent, and I thought this might be the perfect way work with my nature prints!
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C7izSMp0epk/WSaJRWjwUvI/AAAAAAAAKOM/OCMcAs2tVOEVPvzb2YrIYAVXR9KYXPzsACLcB/s1600/detail%2Bbeeswax%2B4%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-C7izSMp0epk/WSaJRWjwUvI/AAAAAAAAKOM/OCMcAs2tVOEVPvzb2YrIYAVXR9KYXPzsACLcB/s1600/detail%2Bbeeswax%2B4%2B640.jpg" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="602" /></a>
</br></br>
I just realized I only have photos of the finished project and none of the individual prints. I have gotten the memory of my phone nearly full so I'm afraid I have to spend the rest of the afternoon organizing my photos. I'll post pics of the prints as soon as I have time!

To welcome the new season, I enjoyed joining a Greenhouse swap at ATCs for All. This was a mixed media swap and another cool twist was that the cards were to be actually house shaped. They were so much fun to make and I can't wait to see the returns I get!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rs_bcaoPuVc/WNjj0UgCCOI/AAAAAAAAKHg/ZnQGXcRyN2ErOB5RkjKeW7y1cqffgI6_gCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2Ball%2Bfour%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rs_bcaoPuVc/WNjj0UgCCOI/AAAAAAAAKHg/ZnQGXcRyN2ErOB5RkjKeW7y1cqffgI6_gCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2Ball%2Bfour%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I was inspired by the following challenges:
</br></br>
The Artistic Stamper: <a href="http://theartisticstampercreativeteam.blogspot.fi/2017/03/marchs-creative-challenge-springtime.html">Springtime</a></br>

</br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3_5JHN9pFc4/WNj3Y_EtBjI/AAAAAAAAKJg/DckoQ5RQweMmHzF6gqaqsH2ftw9FHlnjwCLcB/s1600/Vesennee_nastroenie_MM.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3_5JHN9pFc4/WNj3Y_EtBjI/AAAAAAAAKJg/DckoQ5RQweMmHzF6gqaqsH2ftw9FHlnjwCLcB/s1600/Vesennee_nastroenie_MM.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
For the spring themed challenges, the inspiration is quite obvious, I guess! As for Simon's Layer it Up challenge, I actually tried something new with layering. I'll get back to that a bit further down!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-80xedBlJgvM/WNjj0j1LYTI/AAAAAAAAKHk/bX37FZJLO6gA1nF6sKQOBoL10497JGtHQCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2B1%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-80xedBlJgvM/WNjj0j1LYTI/AAAAAAAAKHk/bX37FZJLO6gA1nF6sKQOBoL10497JGtHQCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2B1%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
In all the four cards, I began cutting the background and roof from different papers. I included both DIY papers, like Gelli prints, and scrapbook papers and magazine pages.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i_Pj3bQQKZY/WNjj0zvlgbI/AAAAAAAAKHs/dip-UDYbvVQHUaDm3kgIVNfmzFcCnBEmgCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2Bsquare%2B4_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-i_Pj3bQQKZY/WNjj0zvlgbI/AAAAAAAAKHs/dip-UDYbvVQHUaDm3kgIVNfmzFcCnBEmgCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2Bsquare%2B4_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I then added collage elements like postage stamps, washi tape, magazine cuts...
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xvwEMRfQ1j0/WNjj0UitL7I/AAAAAAAAKHc/cV4AIzBw5oocZ7sTAl7NIazdbkj_8zcTgCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2Bcrop%2B1%252C25_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xvwEMRfQ1j0/WNjj0UitL7I/AAAAAAAAKHc/cV4AIzBw5oocZ7sTAl7NIazdbkj_8zcTgCLcB/s1600/greenhouses%2Bcrop%2B1%252C25_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
And some colour with Gelatos and Crayola crayons.
</br></br>
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nyKSsTyTJtI/WNjrcJ0DfqI/AAAAAAAAKI4/VdaOIWGH9Ew0WZ1XXeo_fZAi1wziGqBVQCLcB/s1600/greenhouse%2B1.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nyKSsTyTJtI/WNjrcJ0DfqI/AAAAAAAAKI4/VdaOIWGH9Ew0WZ1XXeo_fZAi1wziGqBVQCLcB/s400/greenhouse%2B1.jpg" width="289" height="400" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9T3r_khBE2s/WNjrcDFingI/AAAAAAAAKI0/up5f6MPPPxMD815iX_dAdIEbIgTg37s9ACLcB/s1600/greenhouse%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9T3r_khBE2s/WNjrcDFingI/AAAAAAAAKI0/up5f6MPPPxMD815iX_dAdIEbIgTg37s9ACLcB/s400/greenhouse%2B2.jpg" width="284" height="400" /></a>
</br></br>
And then to the last layer! I had done some stamping on tissue paper and other nearly see-through papers earlier this week. I've been wanting to build a pre-made stash for beeswax collage, which is where I have previously used stamping on tissue. The thing is that the paper becomes invisible with wet media, and only the stamping shows. This is a cool way to add stamping on surfaces where the stamping ink alone might not show very well, or might bleed, depending on what you're going to add next.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R0cnHEnnOEY/WNjyIyTUNCI/AAAAAAAAKJQ/HyBTALcbG1Qzh9RpreMCMkl2kMZMDV-vwCLcB/s1600/stamping%2Bon%2Btissue_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R0cnHEnnOEY/WNjyIyTUNCI/AAAAAAAAKJQ/HyBTALcbG1Qzh9RpreMCMkl2kMZMDV-vwCLcB/s1600/stamping%2Bon%2Btissue_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I usually only make beeswax collage when I can dedicate a whole day or longer stretch of time for it, since it takes a while to take the supplies out and clean afterwards. Mainly it is that I use the same ironing board that I use for clothers so I need to cover it properly before I get started. Anyway, I'm glad I thought of using the stamped tissue in another way! And acrylic medium worked in a similar way as beeswax - the paper seems to completely disappear.
</br></br>
Remember that for both beeswax and acrylic medium, the stamping ink has to be permanent! I always use Staz-On.

December is a busy month for many in the craft blogging world, but I seem to have done the complete opposite, having had an unintentional blog break for all of last month.
</br></br>
The darkest time of winter has been a bit tough on my family this time, and I hope the new year brings more energy for new projects. January will bring more daylight, that's for sure, and that already helps! Ideas and plans I already have plenty of. More about that soon!
</br></br>
Meanwhile, it' s sketch challenge time again at <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/2017/01/scrap-africa-sketch-challenge-no82.html">Scrap Africa</a>!
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ru8Gt6efxKs/WGum4Y3cwwI/AAAAAAAAKBc/cBwTpQH7XAQvlLRKqr9Qk8gojhY-XbXvgCLcB/s1600/xmas%2Bselfie%2Bfor%2Bscrap%2Bafrica%2Bsketch%2B82_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ru8Gt6efxKs/WGum4Y3cwwI/AAAAAAAAKBc/cBwTpQH7XAQvlLRKqr9Qk8gojhY-XbXvgCLcB/s1600/xmas%2Bselfie%2Bfor%2Bscrap%2Bafrica%2Bsketch%2B82_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Here's the sketch by <a href="http://strawbspatch.blogspot.fi/">Denise van Deventer</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-54-sQyY4NVA/WGum6jT2OJI/AAAAAAAAKBg/xzyvvsRuxd4DU8IkoGZQcqXw0GwM9hwRQCLcB/s1600/Sketch%2B82_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-54-sQyY4NVA/WGum6jT2OJI/AAAAAAAAKBg/xzyvvsRuxd4DU8IkoGZQcqXw0GwM9hwRQCLcB/s1600/Sketch%2B82_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I didn't do a lot of Christmas themed crafts this year, but now with this sketch I was inspired to. (I think it goes really well with both wintery and summery themes!)
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CP3sVV1AHFE/WGulVXxBh2I/AAAAAAAAKBA/q_UddBdLjNc7y7_s-kBV43e8ZL-VlDwuACLcB/s1600/close-up%2Bwhole%2Bpage%2B1_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CP3sVV1AHFE/WGulVXxBh2I/AAAAAAAAKBA/q_UddBdLjNc7y7_s-kBV43e8ZL-VlDwuACLcB/s1600/close-up%2Bwhole%2Bpage%2B1_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
So I chose a selfie with my little one from previous year's Christmas Eve.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZJYErXcMtmA/WGulU667MsI/AAAAAAAAKA8/Fq32RO5wOkIENYwf3ueM8gQhxwoyNDFkACLcB/s1600/close%2Bup%2Bwhole%2Bpage%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZJYErXcMtmA/WGulU667MsI/AAAAAAAAKA8/Fq32RO5wOkIENYwf3ueM8gQhxwoyNDFkACLcB/s1600/close%2Bup%2Bwhole%2Bpage%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I made my layout while we were at our country cottage for the holidays, so I took the extra challenge of having less supplies to choose from. For instance, I didn't use any store bought scrapbook papers, but combined my gelli prints with some re-used packaging material.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UHw6BdAlQwY/WGulU1hwRYI/AAAAAAAAKA0/yGf5mP9jUm8iSWIzprjJxp5OVfO6hZ2YQCLcB/s1600/close-up%2Bmounting%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UHw6BdAlQwY/WGulU1hwRYI/AAAAAAAAKA0/yGf5mP9jUm8iSWIzprjJxp5OVfO6hZ2YQCLcB/s1600/close-up%2Bmounting%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
The alphabet stickers, the metallic purple flourish washi tape and the date stickers are all I took from my stash at home. The snowflake and the glittery star stickers were bought for the kids at Lidl (supermarket) and Flying Tiger (dollar store, kind of). The tag with a pocket is also from Flying Tiger, and the snowflake paper is from the stickers' package.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_7sy-kBgfr0/WGulVZ6r0dI/AAAAAAAAKBE/yz6CqnwLcJUvGEoxkpVzSnd2MwM0LsqSQCLcB/s1600/date%2Band%2Bsnowflake_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_7sy-kBgfr0/WGulVZ6r0dI/AAAAAAAAKBE/yz6CqnwLcJUvGEoxkpVzSnd2MwM0LsqSQCLcB/s1600/date%2Band%2Bsnowflake_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I started the background with a gelli print, made the stars with a texture paste through a stencil, and added some splashes with water and my new Gelatos. I got the Bright Colors set for myself for Christmas, and the colors are indeed deliciously bright! The pale blue I used here is just one of the lighter shades included in the pack.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zahq6cL9buw/WGulVpS0HtI/AAAAAAAAKBM/o7AnvCM3tGsKj-k527oXcCKyZKcSP6vyQCLcB/s1600/your%2Beyes%2Bonly_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zahq6cL9buw/WGulVpS0HtI/AAAAAAAAKBM/o7AnvCM3tGsKj-k527oXcCKyZKcSP6vyQCLcB/s1600/your%2Beyes%2Bonly_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Some red and turquoise Stickles dots give the finishing touch.
</br></br>

</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UaAm3lnHuNk/WGulVIIiK3I/AAAAAAAAKA4/oGwgIIHksr09X2PJKmkygTAkG3VHbr8hwCLcB/s1600/close-up%2Btag%2Betc%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UaAm3lnHuNk/WGulVIIiK3I/AAAAAAAAKA4/oGwgIIHksr09X2PJKmkygTAkG3VHbr8hwCLcB/s1600/close-up%2Btag%2Betc%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I was also inspired by the challenges at <a href="http://scrap-challenge-yourself.blogspot.fi/2016/12/challenge-yourself-36-happy-holidays.html">Challenge YOUrself</a> (Happy Holidays) and <a href="http://mixedmediaplace.blogspot.fi/2016/12/december-challenge.html">Mixed Media Place</a> (Mood Board).
</br></br>
At Challenge YOUrself, the continuous theme is that there must always be a photo of YOU in your layout! I take a lot of selfies and enjoy scrapping them, so that suits me well. And for those of you who don't already scrap self portraits so much, this challenge is a reason to!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F0r-Xw6nCQU/WGqPRWjiZEI/AAAAAAAAKAY/-oPc2iaDIqYDLer_J65CD_Glk18VsPHgQCLcB/s1600/CY%252336.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-F0r-Xw6nCQU/WGqPRWjiZEI/AAAAAAAAKAY/-oPc2iaDIqYDLer_J65CD_Glk18VsPHgQCLcB/s1600/CY%252336.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
In the mood board at Mixed Media Place, I was particularly inspired by the combination of sparkle and earth tones, different letter types and of course the stars!
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-beCGdbQ7Rl0/WGqPRZ7PeOI/AAAAAAAAKAc/ju-cSw0XfmoMqmxsx2qNeffoAF6htykTgCLcB/s1600/mmp-moodboard-12-2016.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-beCGdbQ7Rl0/WGqPRZ7PeOI/AAAAAAAAKAc/ju-cSw0XfmoMqmxsx2qNeffoAF6htykTgCLcB/s1600/mmp-moodboard-12-2016.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Speaking of how dark we have it here in Finland, I looked up today's time of sunset in Espoo and it has already been at 3.28 pm. Here's a photo I took at 4.12 pm. while writing this. Note that it is considerably less dark now that it has snowed! We didn't have a white Christmas so that week it was already pitch black at 4 pm.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-21D5AFtxWg4/WGu0-on6XVI/AAAAAAAAKB4/wG6b0ZIws9wkO_LI502z1mktLiHI9c21QCLcB/s1600/sun%2Bhas%2Balready%2Bset%2Bat%2B4.10%2Bpm_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-21D5AFtxWg4/WGu0-on6XVI/AAAAAAAAKB4/wG6b0ZIws9wkO_LI502z1mktLiHI9c21QCLcB/s1600/sun%2Bhas%2Balready%2Bset%2Bat%2B4.10%2Bpm_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
The upside of the northern location is that the amount of additional light is really notable each day that the spring gets closer! And of course with snow, blue moments like the one in the photo can be quite special and beautiful.
</br></br>
I've never been to the northernmost part of my country in the winter, during the phenomenon called the polar nights. It means simply that the sun does not rise at all during the midwinter days. In Utsjoki, the next time of sunrise will be at noon of January the 16th, can you imagine that.
</br></br>
Thank you for for your visit! I'm particularly thankful for all the comments, as always.Sallahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03438236675277513373noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2074131591146324028.post-18435879134786968332016-12-03T10:29:00.000+02:002016-12-03T10:44:53.984+02:00Mixed Media Christmas ATCs for Scrap AfricaHello again, and happy December! I created this set of Christmasy ATCs inspired by the December Mood Board at <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/2016/12/scrap-africa-mood-board-challenge-no81.html">Scrap Africa</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQf8Duk9CYE/WEAQt21bRhI/AAAAAAAAJ6I/AivUonYqLUg3KSn7ba5Mk8YrJit-diHJwCLcB/s1600/Christmas%2Bset%2Bof%2BATCs_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RQf8Duk9CYE/WEAQt21bRhI/AAAAAAAAJ6I/AivUonYqLUg3KSn7ba5Mk8YrJit-diHJwCLcB/s1600/Christmas%2Bset%2Bof%2BATCs_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I was particularly inspired by the textures, glitter, festive mood and shades of red. The rose in the top left corner made me think of using a stencil, so I started the background with stenciling some structure paste.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1LjzTwnrGBA/WEARWMCTN2I/AAAAAAAAJ6o/Ylu53nf2m_I6qXVasR0sysx-bXeryKPMwCLcB/s1600/December%2BMood%2BBoard%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1LjzTwnrGBA/WEARWMCTN2I/AAAAAAAAJ6o/Ylu53nf2m_I6qXVasR0sysx-bXeryKPMwCLcB/s1600/December%2BMood%2BBoard%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I worked the background in one large piece, about A3 size. I actually started it with a scrapbook layout in mind, but couldn't think of an inspiring photo to combine with it, so I decided I was more in an ATC mood this time.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wniw_ubMzfs/WEAQuv0n1JI/AAAAAAAAJ6g/lj6ybFWv1v83PYgV0ZuMr8vvXYF4PwLUQCLcB/s1600/top%2Bleft%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wniw_ubMzfs/WEAQuv0n1JI/AAAAAAAAJ6g/lj6ybFWv1v83PYgV0ZuMr8vvXYF4PwLUQCLcB/s1600/top%2Bleft%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
When creating with a paper of the size A3, there's actually enough for both scrapbook layout and a row of ATC backgrounds. A3 short side is a quarter inch short of a regular 12x12 scrapbook paper, but I don't mind a difference this small in my projects. I think it's handy and economical to buy art paper for mixed media scrapbooking, even though the sizes have not been created with scrapbook albums in mind.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H1QzZiRr5o0/WEAQt1PPjHI/AAAAAAAAJ6E/kXYUfwna_bk03WZyJWNWMTneJCTozZhAACLcB/s1600/Christmas%2BATCs%2Bfull%2Bview%2B1%2Bto%2B6_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H1QzZiRr5o0/WEAQt1PPjHI/AAAAAAAAJ6E/kXYUfwna_bk03WZyJWNWMTneJCTozZhAACLcB/s1600/Christmas%2BATCs%2Bfull%2Bview%2B1%2Bto%2B6_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Can you guess what other media I have used?
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gIzgGTRrvbY/WEAQuo2cvvI/AAAAAAAAJ6k/Znsz_pISXBoqnN-FrQ04FvV3mrbJ4vC6ACLcB/s1600/top%2Bright%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gIzgGTRrvbY/WEAQuo2cvvI/AAAAAAAAJ6k/Znsz_pISXBoqnN-FrQ04FvV3mrbJ4vC6ACLcB/s1600/top%2Bright%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
There are quite many layers actually. Over the stenciled paste, I first painted some parts with tube watercolours and other spots with acrylics. You can perhaps see the fluorescent red that pops out a bit. That, for example, is an acrylic paint.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0qLUESO1rEE/WEAQuQPVGpI/AAAAAAAAJ6Q/6fpsNj8v0q8uW0fa1fqdCm29MOyE2xNTACLcB/s1600/bottom%2Bleft%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0qLUESO1rEE/WEAQuQPVGpI/AAAAAAAAJ6Q/6fpsNj8v0q8uW0fa1fqdCm29MOyE2xNTACLcB/s1600/bottom%2Bleft%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I used two different lettering stamps that are among my very favourites at the moment: historical script-looking Liesbeth's Letters from Art Journey and an old one that looks like scribbly handwriting.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WgyM9noBsLI/WEAQuSF9mKI/AAAAAAAAJ6Y/E__i5O2bxCsj2dz7BblMob87XJzQ3RqlACLcB/s1600/bottom%2Bright%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WgyM9noBsLI/WEAQuSF9mKI/AAAAAAAAJ6Y/E__i5O2bxCsj2dz7BblMob87XJzQ3RqlACLcB/s1600/bottom%2Bright%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
For the main embellishment, I used wood veneer Christmas trees that I had first gessoed white and then heat embossed with a white gold shade.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uyzr73Ok6XU/WEAQuR6C58I/AAAAAAAAJ6U/58Yhl1zKUAMXt-w3H7Rxbt6Mqpc-xt16gCLcB/s1600/rose%2Band%2Btwo%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uyzr73Ok6XU/WEAQuR6C58I/AAAAAAAAJ6U/58Yhl1zKUAMXt-w3H7Rxbt6Mqpc-xt16gCLcB/s1600/rose%2Band%2Btwo%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I also used paper scraps, washi tape and a velvety flourish fabric tape.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IvCWbTOytN0/WEAQuseoobI/AAAAAAAAJ6c/4cKAksY5TcY79qyCWk3nX2Gb-6IYkw0EACLcB/s1600/three%2Bin%2Ba%2Brow%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IvCWbTOytN0/WEAQuseoobI/AAAAAAAAJ6c/4cKAksY5TcY79qyCWk3nX2Gb-6IYkw0EACLcB/s1600/three%2Bin%2Ba%2Brow%2B640.jpg" /></a>

Here in Finland the winter has come early and the earth is already covered in snow. It came so early indeed that I'm still finishing my last pieces with fall colours!
</br></br>
Today I'm posting a tag similar to the one I made <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2016/11/dark-green-and-hexagons-autumn-tag-for.html">last week</a> as the DT for this month's <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/2016/11/scrap-africa-sketch-challenge-no80.html">Scrap Africa Sketch</a> Challenge.

A couple of process photos, the first depicting how I used Glossy Accents in some of the hexagons and the second trying all the elements in place.

I'm writing in Finnish this time, since it's about my upcoming workshops in my home town Espoo, Finland.
</br></br>
Heippa!
</br></br>
Ilmoittautuminen tapahtuu netissä www.ilmonet.fi tai puhelimitse 0206 924 44.</br> (Huom! Puhelinpalvelu vain ma klo 12−16 ja ti−to klo 12−15.)
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6bMxJP3JyRc/WCm3AbWyPlI/AAAAAAAAJ3o/MzCsS5pERdIGDx9EsJ-ogTMCUWpukaMiQCLcB/s1600/mainos%2Bmixed%2Bmedia%2B2016_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6bMxJP3JyRc/WCm3AbWyPlI/AAAAAAAAJ3o/MzCsS5pERdIGDx9EsJ-ogTMCUWpukaMiQCLcB/s1600/mainos%2Bmixed%2Bmedia%2B2016_640.jpg" /></a>
</br>
<b></br><a href="https://ilmonet.fi/#fi/search/txt=E163072">Mixed media -jouluaskartelu</a></b> käynnistyy jo huomenna tiistaina 15.11. infokerran merkeissä.</br></br> Infokerralla tutustumme hieman tarvikkeisiin ja toisiimme, pohdimme mahdollisia projekteja ja neuvon lisähankinnoissa varsinaista kurssiviikonloppua varten.
</br></br>
Kurssin hinta on 40 €, josta materiaalimaksun osuus on 8 €. Ilmoitathan, jollet pääse ensimmäiselle kerralle! <b>(4 paikkaa vapaana)</b>
</br></br>
Kurssipäivät ovat:</br>
tiistai 15.11. klo 17.30−20, Tapiola, Itätuulentie 1 (käsityöluokka)</br>
lauantai 26.11. klo 10−16, Tapiola, Itätuulentie 1 (ateljeeluokka)</br>
sunnuntai 27.11. klo 10−16, Tapiola, Itätuulentie 1 (ateljeeluokka)
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ATUcFSWbYjw/WCm5bAn1lxI/AAAAAAAAJ34/gcoyITTJ9-kisQL0ocmAzZFSmq6eI3AVwCLcB/s1600/PicMonkey%2BCollage_edge%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ATUcFSWbYjw/WCm5bAn1lxI/AAAAAAAAJ34/gcoyITTJ9-kisQL0ocmAzZFSmq6eI3AVwCLcB/s1600/PicMonkey%2BCollage_edge%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Myös viime vuosien suosikkikurssilla </br><b><a href="https://ilmonet.fi/#fi/search/txt=E163073">Joulukortit mehiläisvahatekniikalla</a> (kuva yllä) on vapautumut yksi paikka </b>(kannattaa ilmoittautua myös jonoon!) Kurssin hinta on 29 €, josta materiaalimaksun osuus on 8 €.

sunnuntai 20.11. klo 10−16, Tapiola, Itätuulentie 1 (ateljeeluokka)
</br></br>
Tervetuloa kursseille!

November is here, and it's <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/2016/11/scrap-africa-sketch-challenge-no80.html">Scrap Africa sketch</a> time! (Sorry for posting late!)
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wbJ9iYNSZfQ/WBx3vPdScHI/AAAAAAAAJ2U/_F4MDaNTjoYVwE4c3fAV-NuVdiiKrBX0QCLcB/s1600/green%2Bautumn%2Btag%2Bfor%2Bscrap%2Bafrica%2Bsketch%2B80_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wbJ9iYNSZfQ/WBx3vPdScHI/AAAAAAAAJ2U/_F4MDaNTjoYVwE4c3fAV-NuVdiiKrBX0QCLcB/s1600/green%2Bautumn%2Btag%2Bfor%2Bscrap%2Bafrica%2Bsketch%2B80_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I was happy to work with this one since I love hexagons.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N8AoLqjFAyI/WBx338LKrCI/AAAAAAAAJ2k/Yiz9MBatDOs5FRPRl6_16hToW1r3YTRIACLcB/s1600/Sketch%2Bno.80_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-N8AoLqjFAyI/WBx338LKrCI/AAAAAAAAJ2k/Yiz9MBatDOs5FRPRl6_16hToW1r3YTRIACLcB/s1600/Sketch%2Bno.80_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I've been admiring the cool mixed media tags that people do and wanted to give it a try.
</br></br>
I started by colouring two manila coloured tags with Distress Inks. I often choose to work on more than one piece, especially if it's something fairly small or something I haven't tried before. If one does not work out, there'll still be the other, and maybe it works better in one colour than the other.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sHAsxsah0E0/WCB7ILpjuvI/AAAAAAAAJ3E/xjmbjlKiGj4HMggsRN9NqE4oAVNFBxsHwCLcB/s1600/distress%2Bink%2Bon%2Btags_crop_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sHAsxsah0E0/WCB7ILpjuvI/AAAAAAAAJ3E/xjmbjlKiGj4HMggsRN9NqE4oAVNFBxsHwCLcB/s1600/distress%2Bink%2Bon%2Btags_crop_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I recently got some Prima Resist Canvas Shapes and this is the first time using them! I dyed them with mists and let them drying. Next, I cut hexagons in different sizes, and gave some of them a glossy finish with the Glossy Accents glue. The canvas shapes and hexies would take pretty long to dry and it suited me fine to leave them overnight.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2e11rMug2SA/WBx3vNNy3lI/AAAAAAAAJ2M/2BX8CjdNZjMwYoS3i-0FvFp2xp1lnO0NwCLcB/s1600/kukka%2Bl%25C3%25A4helt%25C3%25A4%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2e11rMug2SA/WBx3vNNy3lI/AAAAAAAAJ2M/2BX8CjdNZjMwYoS3i-0FvFp2xp1lnO0NwCLcB/s1600/kukka%2Bl%25C3%25A4helt%25C3%25A4%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I then went on making layers for the tag backgrounds. I stamped with two different text stamps and heat embossed them using Lindy's Stamp Gang
Midnight Teal powder. I also used thin gold-foil striped washi tape and acrylic inks.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wIRUN9_JzBs/WBx3vCwjNCI/AAAAAAAAJ2Q/Ri7dUenfp6oo7E-9m-Xod4y5ec2lgeCoACLcB/s1600/oikealta%2Bsivulta%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wIRUN9_JzBs/WBx3vCwjNCI/AAAAAAAAJ2Q/Ri7dUenfp6oo7E-9m-Xod4y5ec2lgeCoACLcB/s1600/oikealta%2Bsivulta%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Next, I arranged the hexies and swirls in place, adding some white and dark blue sewing thread.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mQL6nGNeMHE/WBx3vWSvz8I/AAAAAAAAJ2Y/IH0ZAknwHSMP02oHtwZT71Lsuw9siAjwwCLcB/s1600/vasemmalta%2Bsivulta%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mQL6nGNeMHE/WBx3vWSvz8I/AAAAAAAAJ2Y/IH0ZAknwHSMP02oHtwZT71Lsuw9siAjwwCLcB/s1600/vasemmalta%2Bsivulta%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
And on top of it, I had these really pretty cardboard and vellum poppy flowers. I still wanted to add a bit of something so I glued some micro pearls on the flower and some Perfect Pearls and Stickles onto the flower and on the side.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n2wX2NYYX1A/WBx5GXDPjsI/AAAAAAAAJ2s/7NeqUYYAIVsozO-y_Zibsd_znPkNDySPACLcB/s1600/vinosti%2Balhaalta%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n2wX2NYYX1A/WBx5GXDPjsI/AAAAAAAAJ2s/7NeqUYYAIVsozO-y_Zibsd_znPkNDySPACLcB/s1600/vinosti%2Balhaalta%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>

Happy Friday, and happy September! It's monthly challenge time again at <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/2016/09/scrap-africa-sketch-challenge-no78.html">Scrap Africa</a>!</br></br>
I felt like making a light and neutral coloured layout with some mixed media elements on the background. I'm still using my <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2016/08/krafty-travel-kit-and-mini-album_24.html">Krafty Travel Kit</a> I joined the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/2016/08/august-2016-counterfeit-kit-reveal.html">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a> with last month.

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A3URkpq-Ek4/V8lKJAfR4OI/AAAAAAAAJxo/TXIS9cDr6VENbPbTd4cAB2b76u4PcFGRQCLcB/s1600/hello%2Bfriend%2Bfor%2Bscrap%2Bafrica%2Bsketch%2B78_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A3URkpq-Ek4/V8lKJAfR4OI/AAAAAAAAJxo/TXIS9cDr6VENbPbTd4cAB2b76u4PcFGRQCLcB/s1600/hello%2Bfriend%2Bfor%2Bscrap%2Bafrica%2Bsketch%2B78_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
This month we have an elegant simple sketch with a circle around the focal cluster.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W12qNJSBsm4/V8lKJMBX5hI/AAAAAAAAJxg/BtRxbh5QxncY2V4LPM10FUQaurvO0OfygCLcB/s1600/Sketch%2Bno.78%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W12qNJSBsm4/V8lKJMBX5hI/AAAAAAAAJxg/BtRxbh5QxncY2V4LPM10FUQaurvO0OfygCLcB/s1600/Sketch%2Bno.78%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I'm also sharing a couple of photos of how I got the layout started. For the background, a cardstock colour called Straw was suitable for my idea, light but not completely white. I had spread a very light layer of gesso on it previously. The journaling card, the gold and white striped straw and the paper with the crosses or plus signs are from my Counterfeit kit as well as the cardstock.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5kOmkkgmhl4/V8lKJgrqErI/AAAAAAAAJxw/QjPAkENjPkQTnQmiL2Iq95SztkDWejEJgCLcB/s1600/planning%2Bthe%2Blayout%2B1_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5kOmkkgmhl4/V8lKJgrqErI/AAAAAAAAJxw/QjPAkENjPkQTnQmiL2Iq95SztkDWejEJgCLcB/s1600/planning%2Bthe%2Blayout%2B1_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Due to having a toddler at home, I quite often start my projects at night, choosing materials and trying different layouts. If it's already late at that point, I don't necessarily do anything else but just "sleep on it", and next day I have a better idea of how to go on.
</br></br>
The photo with my messy table below is about a trick I have learned at patchwork quilting.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DFF2FN8d1bw/V8lKJZkLFjI/AAAAAAAAJxs/D-cdPGwYXLQAnwa4IyDY91-vVjckswvGwCLcB/s1600/planning%2Ba%2Blayout%2B3_lightness_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DFF2FN8d1bw/V8lKJZkLFjI/AAAAAAAAJxs/D-cdPGwYXLQAnwa4IyDY91-vVjckswvGwCLcB/s1600/planning%2Ba%2Blayout%2B3_lightness_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
That is, for checking if the layout still looks mainly white when I add the plus sign paper and the blue journaling card.
</br></br>
Sometimes it's hard to compare the lightness value of different elements from up close, so it helps to look from a distance. Blurring your eyes a bit or taking a blurry photo, like I did here, confirms that the other elements are fairly close to the background in lightness value. I wanted it to be this way so that it's just the photos that pop out from the background, not the whole cluster of elements.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N76l67CvHC4/V8lKJDsS1KI/AAAAAAAAJxk/ockQ7jRIGCouE8FvdCsSnuWeDWTJTxwSgCLcB/s1600/planning%2Ba%2Blayout%2B2_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N76l67CvHC4/V8lKJDsS1KI/AAAAAAAAJxk/ockQ7jRIGCouE8FvdCsSnuWeDWTJTxwSgCLcB/s1600/planning%2Ba%2Blayout%2B2_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
At the point of taking the photo above, my 2-year-old had been drawing beside me, and I wanted have the mark of his pen on my background, too. He and his brother are also the stars of the layout, so it felt like a nice way to keep a memory of his first drawings!
</br></br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwNZtUABrtnyhau6E_6fzmi3FuBmXzpZ07iAhY8jL2DIEt3mvvmUEfJ_Xm4B4FYO39nHtAUJuCJwY_8QNJ6lTOOEXxdTF7lgrQzBj2kZryIhyphenhyphenko0cv5djACDcrCfQggfD1TGkCpAsfJVA/s1600/mixed+media+detail+640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwNZtUABrtnyhau6E_6fzmi3FuBmXzpZ07iAhY8jL2DIEt3mvvmUEfJ_Xm4B4FYO39nHtAUJuCJwY_8QNJ6lTOOEXxdTF7lgrQzBj2kZryIhyphenhyphenko0cv5djACDcrCfQggfD1TGkCpAsfJVA/s1600/mixed+media+detail+640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
In addition to the doodling, I used mists, white and gold structure pastes, yellow Paint Pen and turquoise Stickles for the circular frame.
</br></br>

</br></br>
The chipboard rocking horse is from Wycinanka. I used blue acrylic paint on it first, let it dry and embossed around the edges with Midnight Teal from Lindy's Stamp Gang. Last layer is clear embossing powder. The separate stars that came with the horse just have the blue paint and the clear powder layers.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-etk2YLQIJGg/V8lOHsrqBXI/AAAAAAAAJyI/NulPp_HV80oCQSPBIXO4n1rkuQ6pllmFQCLcB/s1600/photos%2Band%2Brocking%2Bhorse%2Bdetail%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-etk2YLQIJGg/V8lOHsrqBXI/AAAAAAAAJyI/NulPp_HV80oCQSPBIXO4n1rkuQ6pllmFQCLcB/s1600/photos%2Band%2Brocking%2Bhorse%2Bdetail%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Apart from the thin washi tape strip in the top left corner, I felt like no more embellishments were needed this time!
</br></br>

</br></br>
If you're already following the Blog Hop, you have probably come here from <a href="http://tinasscrapcorner.blogspot.fi/">Tina's</a> blog. If you want to start from the beginning or got lost along the way, head back to the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a> blog to find the full hop order!
</br></br>
A couple of months ago in June, I had the honour to be a <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/2016/06/june-kit-reveal.html">Guest Designer</a> at the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog</a>. It was so much fun to put together my own kit, and even more fun was to have my kit then handy to create projects for the whole month. The inspiration kit was the <a href="http://hipkitclub.net/may-2016">May 2016 Kit</a> from Hip Kit Club, bright and cheerful, and I called my kit <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2016/06/hip-state-of-mind-guest-designing-for.html">Hip State of Mind</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/search/label/Counterfeit%20Kit">Here</a> you can see all the projects I made with the June kit, and <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2015/08/my-reveal-for-counterfeit-kit-challenge.html">here</a> is the direct link to the one time I had joined their challenge with my own kit before that.
</br></br>
This time, the monthly inspiration kit was chosen by <a href="http://lisahausmann.blogspot.fi/">Lisa Hausmann</a>, who as a European member of the CKC Design Team wanted to pick a kit from a European club. Lisa's choice was the <a href="http://www.papierwerkstatt-onlineshop.com/epages/63718355.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/63718355/Products/monatskit3-16">March 2016 kit</a> from Papierwerkstatt. You can also take a look on the kit on Lisa's Pinterest board <a href="https://de.pinterest.com/lisainre/ckc-august-kit/">here</a>!
</br></br>
Let's take a look at the Papierwerkstatt kit first!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dYaN_YfD6dY/V7zDgVHG1dI/AAAAAAAAJvI/6ahX4PGQ5pYtbnaNLSeUZeA-FzlsLS0NgCLcB/s1600/komplett%2BPapierwerkstatt_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dYaN_YfD6dY/V7zDgVHG1dI/AAAAAAAAJvI/6ahX4PGQ5pYtbnaNLSeUZeA-FzlsLS0NgCLcB/s1600/komplett%2BPapierwerkstatt_640.jpg" /></a>

</br></br>
I was particularly inspired by the kraft and neutral tones of the kit, and also the mini book idea, which you'll see in my project further down! For contrast, there is also one black paper with a flower pattern.
</br></br>
And here's my Counterfeit... named the Krafty Travel Kit!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8_P7BfZXL1o/V7zBruWyKPI/AAAAAAAAJuk/3esoC-zIlFInD5_VqIEfDuxtobUBirthwCLcB/s1600/Krafty%2BTravel%2BFull%2BKit%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8_P7BfZXL1o/V7zBruWyKPI/AAAAAAAAJuk/3esoC-zIlFInD5_VqIEfDuxtobUBirthwCLcB/s1600/Krafty%2BTravel%2BFull%2BKit%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
With a close-up...
</br></br>

</br></br>
Here are the papers and cardstock I chose!
</br></br>
I was not completely happy at first to replace the black paper with these two Basic Grey flower ones with brown and purple backgrounds, but they had to do, since I simply didn't have any with black backgrounds and wanted to have some dark ones with flowers anyway. We'll see if they work for this kit or not.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2xxapjzddw/V7zBsPAZ9QI/AAAAAAAAJus/fbwhKT3zzKILkS1jHYQ0nBprvlDYLwcFgCLcB/s1600/Krafty%2BTravel%2BKit%2B-%2Bpapers%2B1%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2xxapjzddw/V7zBsPAZ9QI/AAAAAAAAJus/fbwhKT3zzKILkS1jHYQ0nBprvlDYLwcFgCLcB/s1600/Krafty%2BTravel%2BKit%2B-%2Bpapers%2B1%2B640.jpg" /></a>

</br></br>
I knew I wanted to join the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/2016/08/august-2016-challenge-2.html">Challenge 2</a> of the month in particular, where the theme is Outside the Stash: Incorporate some non-scrapbook stash into your project. I had so many possible items that they deserved to be an add-on kit of their own!
</br></br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0dGEjoBGdUczEZbZDE_QmsJWn4bNWZSqLqtFLKXSHPP4FogXkf1ONkFQjcisiEFBgcMCYqJ_Pl2P0KtTh719LngpfIkWdG-9r98b8jcV5ERm7TalVpC0du2K774iKyl4iER_WoFJXbh8/s1600/Outside+the+Stash+640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0dGEjoBGdUczEZbZDE_QmsJWn4bNWZSqLqtFLKXSHPP4FogXkf1ONkFQjcisiEFBgcMCYqJ_Pl2P0KtTh719LngpfIkWdG-9r98b8jcV5ERm7TalVpC0du2K774iKyl4iER_WoFJXbh8/s1600/Outside+the+Stash+640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
And then to my challenge project!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Adr-Vvd3o0/V71CkS3xOSI/AAAAAAAAJv0/KgwUQxbDnvEBM1dTMJJyQb9YOiM5PyLNwCLcB/s1600/krafty%2Btravel%2Bbook%2B1%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Adr-Vvd3o0/V71CkS3xOSI/AAAAAAAAJv0/KgwUQxbDnvEBM1dTMJJyQb9YOiM5PyLNwCLcB/s1600/krafty%2Btravel%2Bbook%2B1%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
A Mini Album from Outside the Stash − made from toilet paper rolls!
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BS6Aw3GCv08/V71CklmTNDI/AAAAAAAAJv4/9ztpNZEXrm0IKqRJf_tJ2ktJnTgWxBxzACLcB/s1600/krafty%2Btravel%2Bbook%2B2%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BS6Aw3GCv08/V71CklmTNDI/AAAAAAAAJv4/9ztpNZEXrm0IKqRJf_tJ2ktJnTgWxBxzACLcB/s1600/krafty%2Btravel%2Bbook%2B2%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
This was a quick and simple project with memories and ideas from a craftivism workshop that I participated in last weekend. The good thing with a paper roll album is that the rolls automatically form pockets where it's easy to add hidden journaling, so I can do that later!

The lovely August mood board at <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/">Scrap Africa</a> inspired me to try my new Art Journey set of stamps with <a href="http://www.artjourney.nl/a-39118342/art-journey-stamps/vintage-bottles/">vintage bottles</a>.
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g9mt_MrIedw/V5yZuc164KI/AAAAAAAAJtA/amPR8AHDR5Y8COPfW8RA-UMfKkptLN4yQCLcB/s1600/Vintage%2BBottles%2Bfor%2BScrap%2BAfrica%2BAugust%2BMood%2BBoard%2B77_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g9mt_MrIedw/V5yZuc164KI/AAAAAAAAJtA/amPR8AHDR5Y8COPfW8RA-UMfKkptLN4yQCLcB/s1600/Vintage%2BBottles%2Bfor%2BScrap%2BAfrica%2BAugust%2BMood%2BBoard%2B77_640.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Here's the beautiful blazing purple/violet mood board, with so many possible ideas of inspiration! I was particularly inspired by the bottle theme, obviously, plus the watercolour flower painting on the top right that made me think of making a painterly background with dye inks.
<br />
<br />
Did you know that you can join the Scrap Africa challenges with any kind of paper crafting, be it layouts, cards, ATCs or off the page projects?
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aXkuqcKywsk/V5yZuOZgfYI/AAAAAAAAJs8/fbFoCNAPOUESTLbteV0HCZm1PffG3JAtQCLcB/s1600/Aug%2B2016%2BMood%2BBoard.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aXkuqcKywsk/V5yZuOZgfYI/AAAAAAAAJs8/fbFoCNAPOUESTLbteV0HCZm1PffG3JAtQCLcB/s1600/Aug%2B2016%2BMood%2BBoard.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I am also joining the challenges at Lost Coast Designs Blog, where the monthly theme is <a href="http://lostcoastportaltocreativity.blogspot.fi/2016/08/challenge-27-water-color-background_1.html">Watercolor Background</a>, and the Artistic Stamper, with <a href="http://theartisticstampercreativeteam.blogspot.fi/2016/08/august-creative-challenge-anything-goes.html">Anything Goes</a>.
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aHdvDsN-0cw/V5yZuKoQ_wI/AAAAAAAAJs0/AfU1nwWT-yccEjn8U6FHhK9GIhEoKQ_ZwCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160729_195853_vintage%2Bbottles%2B1_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aHdvDsN-0cw/V5yZuKoQ_wI/AAAAAAAAJs0/AfU1nwWT-yccEjn8U6FHhK9GIhEoKQ_ZwCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160729_195853_vintage%2Bbottles%2B1_640.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The watercolour effects of my ATC backgrounds are made with Distress Inks. Both that and the stamping technique I used were taught by the Dutch stamping artist <a href="http://liesbethart.blogspot.fi/">Liesbeth Fidder</a> at one of her popular workshops in Finland last spring.
Liesbeth showed us how to make a watercolour looking background with Distress Inks, a spray bottle of water and an acrylic block. Until then, I must admit I had not used my few Distress Inks a lot, since I prefer pigment or permanent inks for stamping of actual images. I know there must be so many ways to use them that I just haven't thought of, and this definitely became a favourite!
<br />
<br />
I also like that there are more bright colours available, and the mini pads that are more economical to get in many colours. When I bought my first Distress Inks, they were mostly in earthly shades (which I normally love, too, but with this technique, the brighter colours really get to shine!)
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_D6pjoqDDe0/V5yZuMxUnDI/AAAAAAAAJs4/X6YiQLJCLkklVgKKdQFRDisbTQldy8higCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160729_195939_vintage%2Bbottles%2B2_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_D6pjoqDDe0/V5yZuMxUnDI/AAAAAAAAJs4/X6YiQLJCLkklVgKKdQFRDisbTQldy8higCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160729_195939_vintage%2Bbottles%2B2_640.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
I made the larger piece of paper into ATC sized cards at this point and stamped the bottles with black Staz-On. The next thing was to remove the background colour from the image area with chlorite. As said, all of this I know thanks to Liesbeth, who is also a very nice teacher in addition to being a great stamping artist. I warmly recommend joining her workshops if you ever get the chance!
<br />
<br />
For those of you who live in or near Finland, Liesbeth's workshops have been organized by <a href="http://amalianaskartelut.blogspot.fi/">Askartelu Amalia</a> in Espoo, in case you are interested!
<br />
<br />
For a finishing touch, I just added a bit of Inka Gold in Turquoise and Violet in the borders and corners.
<br />
<br />
Here are the cards one by one. They are all available for trade, and I'll update when they aren't anymore. Feel free to ask here in the comments or wherever you see me in social media!

It's time to welcome July together with the new monthly challenge at <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/">Scrap Africa</a>. This time we have a lovely sketch by <a href="http://strawbspatch.blogspot.fi/">Denise van Deventer</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTlJ1IxGY1E/V3S7kdryfhI/AAAAAAAAJpE/iPaL-5DT92c6ARJJqja80CGvMe4NZWRhgCLcB/s1600/Celebrate%2BCousins_Scrap%2BAfrica_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZTlJ1IxGY1E/V3S7kdryfhI/AAAAAAAAJpE/iPaL-5DT92c6ARJJqja80CGvMe4NZWRhgCLcB/s1600/Celebrate%2BCousins_Scrap%2BAfrica_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Here it is!
</br></br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXcpdB_GSOSD898KYSF3gakinfr3aNX9BRFYyEEWF8V9Lviu2DcQ7zrwM2x1Fdx2wweiLuhDHtZIguf1WlZAXt5dE2GFJbsw_xyI8v93YtVJPDXAFGejwcDu8rNMnj7Q-RiBGc5OS2lQ8/s1600/Sketch+no.76.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXcpdB_GSOSD898KYSF3gakinfr3aNX9BRFYyEEWF8V9Lviu2DcQ7zrwM2x1Fdx2wweiLuhDHtZIguf1WlZAXt5dE2GFJbsw_xyI8v93YtVJPDXAFGejwcDu8rNMnj7Q-RiBGc5OS2lQ8/s1600/Sketch+no.76.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I'm still creating with <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2016/06/hip-state-of-mind-guest-designing-for.html">the kit I created</a> for guesting the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/search/label/Guest%20Designer">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a> in June!
</br></br>
This was the only paper I bought specifically for my kit, everything else was from my existing stash. It's quite unusual compared to my basic stash, seeing that it has the colourful cluster of print on the left margin, while the rest of the paper has just this delicate yellow geometric pattern. I loved the paper when I saw it but I wasn't sure how easily I would get to use it.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qZxheJQTZ7M/V3S7kjv6m3I/AAAAAAAAJpM/29pg2O6HllsEz1yKDsb9rsF06bPNA5VHwCLcB/s1600/title%252C%2Bdiamond%2Bstamping%252C%2Bhexagons_color%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qZxheJQTZ7M/V3S7kjv6m3I/AAAAAAAAJpM/29pg2O6HllsEz1yKDsb9rsF06bPNA5VHwCLcB/s1600/title%252C%2Bdiamond%2Bstamping%252C%2Bhexagons_color%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
The paper turned out to be an excellent combination with the Scrap Africa sketch and this pair of photos that I printed in black and white.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--1lJLGPTLcE/V3S7ka8NbhI/AAAAAAAAJo8/UATlP0atbxQc7rqNZi14rtrm_-jci2W-QCLcB/s1600/embossed%2Bflower%2Bstamping_2_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--1lJLGPTLcE/V3S7ka8NbhI/AAAAAAAAJo8/UATlP0atbxQc7rqNZi14rtrm_-jci2W-QCLcB/s1600/embossed%2Bflower%2Bstamping_2_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I was also inspired by the challenges at <a href="http://scrap-challenge-yourself.blogspot.fi/2016/06/challenge-yourself-30-using-geometric.html">Challenge YOUrself!</a> themed Geometric Shapes, <a href="http://challenge-km-shop.blogspot.fi/2016/06/88-0307.html">Challenge Km-shop</a> themed Flowers in Three Ways, and <a href="http://stampsandstencils.blogspot.fi/2016/06/floral-frenzy.html">Stamps and Stencils</a>: Floral Frenzy.
</br></br>
The flowers can be found in the patterned paper, in the stamped pattern behind the photos that I embossed with distressed turquoise, in the stamped pattern that I framed near the lower right corner, and in the black and white piece of packaging paper behind the photo on the right margin.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EO6v03CRLhk/V3VuyS7DwHI/AAAAAAAAJpg/-DtJFqClumEaVOum2PHGWCMV0x-6l9kCACLcB/s1600/CY%2523%2B30.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EO6v03CRLhk/V3VuyS7DwHI/AAAAAAAAJpg/-DtJFqClumEaVOum2PHGWCMV0x-6l9kCACLcB/s1600/CY%2523%2B30.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
At Challenge YOUrself, the challenge prompt always includes using a photo of YOU in the project, so I'd better mention that I'm in the photo on the right, and on the left is my sister. We had a combined birthday party for all our the four of our boys this year, which was a great idea! This was actually one photo, but it looks maybe even nicer divided into two. I tilted the pictures a bit to highlight the party mood I hoped to catch in this layout.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KsS2gah3gn0/V3S7kY_BN_I/AAAAAAAAJpA/WgoHHOISRwkMmyi-9OELZrHPa0ugWiAqwCLcB/s1600/lower%2Bpart%2Bdetails_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KsS2gah3gn0/V3S7kY_BN_I/AAAAAAAAJpA/WgoHHOISRwkMmyi-9OELZrHPa0ugWiAqwCLcB/s1600/lower%2Bpart%2Bdetails_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Just a reminder, <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/">Scrap Africa</a> challenges now run for the whole month, so you have all of July to create with this sketch!
</br></br>

</br></br>
and welcome to June Challenge #3 at the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a>! The prompt is </br>"Old is New Again: Showcase the oldest item in your kit in a new & fresh way!"
</br></br>
My oldest items were the floral papers from The Sweet Blossom Stack by Die Cuts with a View: one 12x12 paper and a 12x12 that has tags in different sizes.
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FJKUnMpywuI/V2GbHmnWONI/AAAAAAAAJnE/ArkAXfkc1485F-h1HziIesaZJFPTnKyMwCLcB/s1600/DCVW%2Bpaper%2B1%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FJKUnMpywuI/V2GbHmnWONI/AAAAAAAAJnE/ArkAXfkc1485F-h1HziIesaZJFPTnKyMwCLcB/s1600/DCVW%2Bpaper%2B1%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I picked three other papers in shades of aqua/mint green/teal. I cut the solid mint green cardstock in half to make a 6x6 card.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sxgKHD82EiI/V2GbHhCbQVI/AAAAAAAAJnI/4s628IPKnqsjxnKi2uCoEKEc7x5qJbUAQCLcB/s1600/DCVW%2Bpaper%2B2%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sxgKHD82EiI/V2GbHhCbQVI/AAAAAAAAJnI/4s628IPKnqsjxnKi2uCoEKEc7x5qJbUAQCLcB/s1600/DCVW%2Bpaper%2B2%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
This was the perfect moment to open the Studio Calico wood veneer package I got recently...
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rjt4KFNuvFg/V2GbIM8fzeI/AAAAAAAAJnY/uCVr4e3Hf5AqL2RzPCgchtvCplD0kUg3wCLcB/s1600/studio%2Bcalico%2Bwood%2Bveneer%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rjt4KFNuvFg/V2GbIM8fzeI/AAAAAAAAJnY/uCVr4e3Hf5AqL2RzPCgchtvCplD0kUg3wCLcB/s1600/studio%2Bcalico%2Bwood%2Bveneer%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I was once again crafting at night so I didn't get to take process pictures, I'm afraid. But here's the finished card!
</br></br>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwbXLFVpOy7QYIxsqHroYgUxUTTNENPHgFwDy484VdZWcdmz6YfrFHI6LaGwkPGJwgaAqjlVAAp-g2g-reqwNRY68aCa-UxDFO068Bniq1xRCDJSr274V-Kikj9AIC4_yZxLYH8nGTgeM/s1600/Birthday+Flowers+640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwbXLFVpOy7QYIxsqHroYgUxUTTNENPHgFwDy484VdZWcdmz6YfrFHI6LaGwkPGJwgaAqjlVAAp-g2g-reqwNRY68aCa-UxDFO068Bniq1xRCDJSr274V-Kikj9AIC4_yZxLYH8nGTgeM/s1600/Birthday+Flowers+640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
In addition to the papers and wood veneer, I used stamping inks, 7 Dots Studio Alpha Stickers, Geometric Neon Washi tape from Papermania Docrafts Capsule collection and Liquid Pearls glue paint in Mint Green.
</br></br>
Although I didn't have any of their papers this time, just the alphabet, I was also inspired by the <a href="http://7dotsstudio.com/archives/23125">Gardening</a> challenge at the 7 Dots Studio blog!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mOoR-ssYRGA/V2Gmw4nFDzI/AAAAAAAAJno/D5cdkI8-deMd6czDM5UbSLx0chn5BXcpQCLcB/s1600/challenge-may2016-7DS-600x600.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mOoR-ssYRGA/V2Gmw4nFDzI/AAAAAAAAJno/D5cdkI8-deMd6czDM5UbSLx0chn5BXcpQCLcB/s1600/challenge-may2016-7DS-600x600.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Another challenge theme that inspired me was Berries at <a href="http://studioleto.blogspot.fi/2016/05/blog-post_23.html">Studio Leto</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PVKwCRUhcAI/V2I6afmICyI/AAAAAAAAJn8/RFFB_6dQEzwabC3B2F4h2g-gN6YwpVFhACLcB/s1600/studio%2Bleto_jagoda_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PVKwCRUhcAI/V2I6afmICyI/AAAAAAAAJn8/RFFB_6dQEzwabC3B2F4h2g-gN6YwpVFhACLcB/s1600/studio%2Bleto_jagoda_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I'm really happy with how the fuzzy cut painterly flower and branch look in the card! The paper was restless to use as such, and that's probably why I hadn't used it. It definitely needed a new and fresh look from this challenge!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KhpljuVk8aA/V2GbH3msoPI/AAAAAAAAJnM/oiJfVhGnnG86EswO89AEGSip0Sh3ER9ZQCLcB/s1600/details%2Bfrom%2Bdown%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KhpljuVk8aA/V2GbH3msoPI/AAAAAAAAJnM/oiJfVhGnnG86EswO89AEGSip0Sh3ER9ZQCLcB/s1600/details%2Bfrom%2Bdown%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
For those of you who aren't familiar with the The Counterfeit Kit Challenge, it's is all about putting together our own kits from what we have, inspired by actual kit club kits. I'm happy to be their Guest Designer this month and got to Counterfeit the <a href="http://hipkitclub.net/may-2016">May kit from Hip Kit Club</a>. If you want to see what else I included in my kit, <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2016/06/hip-state-of-mind-guest-designing-for.html">it's here</a>!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--ySvGq2HW-s/V2GbH31SfMI/AAAAAAAAJnQ/gWWc9ZMpHRcjR3xydwdUTCyNQXAi0BFEACLcB/s1600/from%2Babove%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--ySvGq2HW-s/V2GbH31SfMI/AAAAAAAAJnQ/gWWc9ZMpHRcjR3xydwdUTCyNQXAi0BFEACLcB/s1600/from%2Babove%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Thank you so much to <a href="http://lcsmithsaved-outofthemire.blogspot.fi/l">Leslie</a> and the team at <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a> for inviting me as the June 2016 Guest Designer! It has been a lot of fun and I continue to be inspired by the kit I created. A ready made kit is also very easy to take with me when I spend some summer weeks in the countryside, so that's an extra plus side!

Thank you for coming and hope to see you again soon!

Today's the day for <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/2016/06/june-challenge-1-inspiration-board.html">June Challenge #1</a> at Counterfeit Kit, where I am happy to be the Guest Designer this month.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kLVuEbwCakw/V1Uhk1poYAI/AAAAAAAAJl4/DCgORnejuCMFQHgN6dy7JQeIO049l__GwCLcB/s1600/amazing%2Bglasss%2Bhouse_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kLVuEbwCakw/V1Uhk1poYAI/AAAAAAAAJl4/DCgORnejuCMFQHgN6dy7JQeIO049l__GwCLcB/s1600/amazing%2Bglasss%2Bhouse_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
The challenge prompt is to be inspired by one of these mood boards at <a href="http://burnettsboards.com/inspiration-boards/">Burnett's Boards</a> − you're free to choose one that works with the color/mood of your own counterfeit kit!
</br></br>
The images that you see on the main page are only partial so if something looks promising, take a closer look!
</br></br>
There are some really gorgeous color combos & moods...
This one seemed spot-on for my May Hip Kit Club inspiration this month:
</br></br>
<a href="http://burnettsboards.com/2012/10/neon-wedding/">Neon Wedding</a></br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FEs-a_dYoX4/V1UkesFq8aI/AAAAAAAAJmI/SeMmDLvdhbYx-UAr6snL6jb1SSzqaV02QCLcB/s1600/neon-wedding--640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FEs-a_dYoX4/V1UkesFq8aI/AAAAAAAAJmI/SeMmDLvdhbYx-UAr6snL6jb1SSzqaV02QCLcB/s1600/neon-wedding--640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
The neon colours inspired me to use the yellows and pinks of my kit. And I loved the decoration with the hanging glass pieces and the alphabet in different colours. The letter O in the word LOVE has a metallic finish that made me think of using my sequins. Instead of alphabet, I cut out and decorated two arrows from my kit.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YAabPAlyM7c/V1Ukffc559I/AAAAAAAAJmU/mFyV2mphxlwkXr-v0bRsQh5qKGmSecI1ACLcB/s1600/sequins%2B%2526%2Barrows%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YAabPAlyM7c/V1Ukffc559I/AAAAAAAAJmU/mFyV2mphxlwkXr-v0bRsQh5qKGmSecI1ACLcB/s1600/sequins%2B%2526%2Barrows%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
In the background, I've used some gesso and acrylic paints in neon orange and yellow. I thinned them with water so that I could splash them like watercolours. There is also some pencil doodling and stamping.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MRn5m49KvQ0/V1UkfkxOyyI/AAAAAAAAJmY/qsOAjc5vYBQE8Vj0dbENDNv6KpRoDBdJwCLcB/s1600/upper%2Barrow%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MRn5m49KvQ0/V1UkfkxOyyI/AAAAAAAAJmY/qsOAjc5vYBQE8Vj0dbENDNv6KpRoDBdJwCLcB/s1600/upper%2Barrow%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I used washi tapes and strips of my papers to create the background for my photo.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ufHuZK5ywwc/V1UkeY_4rHI/AAAAAAAAJmE/ucVFRFVGTv8Ol6w2QUmiEOqr3sDRWOwLgCLcB/s1600/from%2Bdown%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ufHuZK5ywwc/V1UkeY_4rHI/AAAAAAAAJmE/ucVFRFVGTv8Ol6w2QUmiEOqr3sDRWOwLgCLcB/s1600/from%2Bdown%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>

</br></br>I'd love to see you pop in and link your own challenge project at <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a>. It'll be so fun to see what mood boards everyone will choose!

I am honoured to be Guest Designing for the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a> this month, and at CKC, the Fourth of each month is for Forgeries! </br></br>
In other words, we look for DIY solutions to replace some of the items included in the original inspiration kit. This month, it is the May Kit from Hip Kit Club. The image is from their website and it is their Embellishment Kit, more precisely.</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xeEfB6l7Vig/V1HXvyae-cI/AAAAAAAAJkc/WzgEMnrh1tQib6vMaH8iH_Xyo32f-0dgQCLcB/s1600/0000804_may-2016-embellishment-kit_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xeEfB6l7Vig/V1HXvyae-cI/AAAAAAAAJkc/WzgEMnrh1tQib6vMaH8iH_Xyo32f-0dgQCLcB/s1600/0000804_may-2016-embellishment-kit_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
And here's what I made!
</br></br>
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hpoVD5as_nE/V1Hl3knAE1I/AAAAAAAAJk8/pmLIhNGu_YYCyqSlnMrv3vXM3SamQ6B5wCLcB/s1600/hello%2Bstickers%2B%2526%2Bpaperclips%2Bwith%2Bbows%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hpoVD5as_nE/V1Hl3knAE1I/AAAAAAAAJk8/pmLIhNGu_YYCyqSlnMrv3vXM3SamQ6B5wCLcB/s1600/hello%2Bstickers%2B%2526%2Bpaperclips%2Bwith%2Bbows%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I had just learned an easy way to make a tiny bow, so I decided to make paper clips with bows! I learned it from a Finnish crafting friend/teacher/shopkeeper Mira Ekonen, whose tutorial can be found <a href="http://amalianaskartelut.blogspot.fi/2013/12/amalian-kalenteri-osa-10-tsi-ohje.html">here</a>! There are images, but if you need guidelines in your own language, just Google "fork bow" and plenty of tutorials will come up.
</br></br>
I didn't have ribbons in matching solid colours, but I'm really delighted with these polka dot organza ones that I found.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IUgzQrH3FRU/V1HmMW3iGQI/AAAAAAAAJlU/_CqVHXPUr2od1uTEVSSnhqwBbxdy2xiGwCLcB/s1600/paperclips%2Bwith%2Bbows%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IUgzQrH3FRU/V1HmMW3iGQI/AAAAAAAAJlU/_CqVHXPUr2od1uTEVSSnhqwBbxdy2xiGwCLcB/s1600/paperclips%2Bwith%2Bbows%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IohAd3OlQjg/V1HmMSva34I/AAAAAAAAJlQ/ULntXgSaQ6Y1LommYiBMeU-o1mA6FLJogCLcB/s1600/paperclips%2Bwith%2Bbows%2B1_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IohAd3OlQjg/V1HmMSva34I/AAAAAAAAJlQ/ULntXgSaQ6Y1LommYiBMeU-o1mA6FLJogCLcB/s1600/paperclips%2Bwith%2Bbows%2B1_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Other items that I love in the Hip Kit Club Embellishment Kit are the handwritten-looking word stickers and chipboards. I had just bought the Sizzix die set called <a href="http://www.sizzix.co.uk/660882/sizzix-thinlits-die-set-3pk-winter-wishes">Warm Winter Wishes</a>, where one of the dies is the word Hello.
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EjrG2iPciV0/V1Hn9DU2idI/AAAAAAAAJlk/zvd4AWMIyZQGGXCHrlQpxitU13jaNMS3wCLcB/s1600/hello%2Bstickers%2B640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EjrG2iPciV0/V1Hn9DU2idI/AAAAAAAAJlk/zvd4AWMIyZQGGXCHrlQpxitU13jaNMS3wCLcB/s1600/hello%2Bstickers%2B640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I made the words into stickers, backing my paper scraps with 50 mm wide double sided tape before I die cut it. Rather than in craft stores, in Finland and Sweden you can find a wide tape like this in Biltema, a car supplies store of all places! It is also very economical and good quality.
</br></br>
Thank you for coming, and don't forget to pop into the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a> blog to see what handmade embellishments or other items the regular DT members did!

</br></br>
I made this set of mixed media bookmarks inspired by the lovely fresh colours of the mood board, especially the aqua colour. And of course, the delicious macarons! They are from a scrapbooking paper and I added the glossy finish on each one with Glossy Accents.
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Jp5KpQBDUw/V1BRKJTnynI/AAAAAAAAJjs/3PE-OlWuBVw-sqsqdGj2ODD3oc7m2C36gCLcB/s1600/June%2BMood%2BBoard%2Bdue%2BMay%2B29.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4Jp5KpQBDUw/V1BRKJTnynI/AAAAAAAAJjs/3PE-OlWuBVw-sqsqdGj2ODD3oc7m2C36gCLcB/s1600/June%2BMood%2BBoard%2Bdue%2BMay%2B29.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Above is the lovely <a href="http://scrapafrica.blogspot.fi/2016/06/scrap-africa-mood-board-challenge-no75.html">Scrap Africa Mood Board 75</a> by <a href="http://strawbspatch.blogspot.fi/">Denise van Deventer</a>!
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5MVKotwRaHQ/V1BRJoTLYJI/AAAAAAAAJjY/2Nai5z2R6R495WpSEAetKCb4kxmvWc97QCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115141_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5MVKotwRaHQ/V1BRJoTLYJI/AAAAAAAAJjY/2Nai5z2R6R495WpSEAetKCb4kxmvWc97QCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115141_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Whenever I intend to create with pastel colours, my palette tends to go a bit darker or brighter than the original inspiration. But that's perfectly fine at Scrap Africa! Our boards are not colour challenges and are therefore free for your own interpretation.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ypQUxvSyw3s/V1BRJsLvlpI/AAAAAAAAJjc/i-YMPNN9l7AoEsR7oW8Q_ARGV92QarV8gCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115149_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ypQUxvSyw3s/V1BRJsLvlpI/AAAAAAAAJjc/i-YMPNN9l7AoEsR7oW8Q_ARGV92QarV8gCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115149_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
I used Gelli printed papers, leftovers of scrapbooking papers, stenciling, stamping, heat embossing, and for mounting each macaron image, I had old wallpaper pieces.
</br></br>
I am also joining the Summer themed June challenge at <a href="http://wowembossingpowder.blogspot.fi/2016/06/june-challenge-and-winner-for-may.html">Wow! Embossing Powders</a> and the Bookmark challenge at <a href="http://art-piaskownica.blogspot.fi/2016/05/temat-zakadka-edycja-sponsorowana.html">Art Piaskownica</a>.
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R96jtaVWWys/V1BRJrvLCsI/AAAAAAAAJjg/OrwDHAU8jSEpv_j8F-UA-PsqJsG2fFqLQCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115157_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R96jtaVWWys/V1BRJrvLCsI/AAAAAAAAJjg/OrwDHAU8jSEpv_j8F-UA-PsqJsG2fFqLQCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115157_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
In this photo I had the flash on so it caught the Glossy Accents finishing really efficiently!
</br></br>
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YeQNXWQ8oG8/V1Enl-MfK6I/AAAAAAAAJkE/XaB7L9rm7xYo6D5cswY-Hkpm-XBpRCu3gCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115331%2Bgloss%2Bdetails_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YeQNXWQ8oG8/V1Enl-MfK6I/AAAAAAAAJkE/XaB7L9rm7xYo6D5cswY-Hkpm-XBpRCu3gCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115331%2Bgloss%2Bdetails_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
The bookmarks are sized 2 3/4 x 10 inches. I wanted them very large to have a lot of room for different collage elements. That does make them too tall for a carry-along book, so if I want to keep them in good condition, they are best suited for reading at home. Nowadays I often have many books going on at the same time, so I need plenty of bookmarks!
</br></br>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FRx49Rf27gE/V1BRJ6iJL7I/AAAAAAAAJjk/ueqBWlOY17cZpgUhOR8VH9gY_qJiaASPACLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115205_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FRx49Rf27gE/V1BRJ6iJL7I/AAAAAAAAJjk/ueqBWlOY17cZpgUhOR8VH9gY_qJiaASPACLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115205_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
For us in Finland, the beginning of June already counts as summer and this is also our end of school weekend. We're leaving for our summer cottage right after that and I've been busy packing some crafting supplies to take with me. I'm also taking <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2016/06/hip-state-of-mind-guest-designing-for.html">the kit I made</a> for guesting the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a>, so I'll be sure to create some more with those products this month!
</br></br>
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5Ta9YHVdNE4/V1BRKJhKP4I/AAAAAAAAJjo/MLJ5PUiGTekcVUB35aWThE3t86iDEGmBwCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115245_640.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5Ta9YHVdNE4/V1BRKJhKP4I/AAAAAAAAJjo/MLJ5PUiGTekcVUB35aWThE3t86iDEGmBwCLcB/s1600/IMG_20160527_115245_640.jpg" /></a>
</br></br>
Before that, you're most welcome back tomorrow to see the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Forgeries on the Fourth</a> here at my blog and at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge site! There'll be cool ideas for DIY embellishments and other replacements of our inspiration kit.
</br></br>
Until then, happy Friday!

My exciting news today is that I've been invited to Guest Design for the <a href="http://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.fi/">Counterfeit Kit Challenge</a>!
</br></br>
At the Counterfeit Kit Challenge, the idea is to be inspired of a given kit from existing kit clubs, and put together a Counterfeit version from your own stash. It’ll help you see your products in a new light and give new ideas for using them.
Before this, I've joined the Counterfeit Kit Challenge once <a href="http://pistojapiiri.blogspot.fi/2015/08/my-reveal-for-counterfeit-kit-challenge.html">last year</a>, with a very different kit.
</br></br>
Can anyone guess which was our inspiration kit this month?
</br></br>

The May 2016 Kit from Hip Kit Club is a fun mix of colours, but also a cool contrast of graphic black, white and navy. Looking at the papers I had in my stash, I decided to go a bit more in the black and white direction. You'll see my picks soon, but first...

</br></br>
The kit has several fun patterns, like triangles, irregular dots and doodled five point stars. It also has some painterly papers, flowers and circles that again make a fun contrast. </br></br>Inspired by these features, I started building my Counterfeit Kit. But let's look at all the Hip Kit Club add-ons first:
