Mixed Media Christmas ATCs for Scrap Africa

Hello again, and happy December! I created this set of Christmasy ATCs inspired by the December Mood Board at Scrap Africa.



I was particularly inspired by the textures, glitter, festive mood and shades of red. The rose in the top left corner made me think of using a stencil, so I started the background with stenciling some structure paste.



I worked the background in one large piece, about A3 size. I actually started it with a scrapbook layout in mind, but couldn't think of an inspiring photo to combine with it, so I decided I was more in an ATC mood this time.



When creating with a paper of the size A3, there's actually enough for both scrapbook layout and a row of ATC backgrounds. A3 short side is a quarter inch short of a regular 12x12 scrapbook paper, but I don't mind a difference this small in my projects. I think it's handy and economical to buy art paper for mixed media scrapbooking, even though the sizes have not been created with scrapbook albums in mind.



Can you guess what other media I have used?



There are quite many layers actually. Over the stenciled paste, I first painted some parts with tube watercolours and other spots with acrylics. You can perhaps see the fluorescent red that pops out a bit. That, for example, is an acrylic paint.



I used two different lettering stamps that are among my very favourites at the moment: historical script-looking Liesbeth's Letters from Art Journey and an old one that looks like scribbly handwriting.



For the main embellishment, I used wood veneer Christmas trees that I had first gessoed white and then heat embossed with a white gold shade.



I also used paper scraps, washi tape and a velvety flourish fabric tape.

Vintage Bottles − An ATC set for Scrap Africa August Mood Board 77

Hi! The lovely August mood board at Scrap Africa inspired me to try my new Art Journey set of stamps with vintage bottles.



Here's the beautiful blazing purple/violet mood board, with so many possible ideas of inspiration! I was particularly inspired by the bottle theme, obviously, plus the watercolour flower painting on the top right that made me think of making a painterly background with dye inks.

I am also joining the challenges at Lost Coast Designs Blog, where the monthly theme is Watercolor Background, and the Artistic Stamper, with Anything Goes.



The watercolour effects of my ATC backgrounds are made with Distress Inks. Both that and the stamping technique I used were taught by the Dutch stamping artist Liesbeth Fidder at one of her popular workshops in Finland last spring. Liesbeth showed us how to make a watercolour looking background with Distress Inks, a spray bottle of water and an acrylic block. Until then, I must admit I had not used my few Distress Inks a lot, since I prefer pigment or permanent inks for stamping of actual images. I know there must be so many ways to use them that I just haven't thought of, and this definitely became a favourite!

I also like that there are more bright colours available, and the mini pads that are more economical to get in many colours. When I bought my first Distress Inks, they were mostly in earthly shades (which I normally love, too, but with this technique, the brighter colours really get to shine!)



I made the larger piece of paper into ATC sized cards at this point and stamped the bottles with black Staz-On. The next thing was to remove the background colour from the image area with chlorite. As said, all of this I know thanks to Liesbeth, who is also a very nice teacher in addition to being a great stamping artist. I warmly recommend joining her workshops if you ever get the chance!

For a finishing touch, I just added a bit of Inka Gold in Turquoise and Violet in the borders and corners.

Illustration Friday: Punch, Collage with DIY Stamps

Hi there! Today I'm showing you the very first stamps I carved myself! The material I used here is called Speedy-Carve. It's a soft eraser-like material that is very easy to carve.

I've had the supplies for quite some time and now was a good time to start, inspired by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's Carve December Challenge.



The lemon slice stamp I made on day 1 can be used alone or together with the one from day 2, the lemon half.

Here I've used them in a mixed media collage piece I'm submitting to Illustration Friday, theme Punch.



Speedy-Carve is a great material, but I didn't have more than the small block that I used more than half of already. I'll have to check out the best place to buy more, and in bigger blocks, too! Another thing I need is smaller carving tools. The set I've bought seems to be good quality, but even the smallest tool is very wide.

Have you ever tried making your own stamps? It's really fun, and it doesn't have to be carved from a material like this - I think even potato prints count, or stamps that you make in any other technique. Do check out Julie Balzer's site and also the hashtag #carvedecember in social media.

Leaving Los Angeles: A Clean & Simple Layout

Clean and simple is not my typical scrapbooking style. On the contrary! "More is more" describes my usual style better. That said, I feel very drawn to more minimalistic approaches at times, and want to learn to make that style work for me as well.



For this layout, I wanted to use a longish text from a novel, and I wanted to have it handwritten in the background, not necessarily fully visible for reading but as a pattern. Before that, I gessoed the background paper to tone down a strong pattern, and made another layer of patterns taking the gesso off with baby wipes through a stencil. That's the hippyish sunbeam pattern you can see here and there.





The handwritten text is my main decoration this time. I added just a little watercolour and clear Stickles, and very few embellishments. I'm quite happy with how it turned out!

I was inspired by the July challenge at Scrap Around the World, and their gorgeous colourful mood board you can see here! I was particularly inspired by the journey theme, the sunset, the pink and all the other bright colours.



I was also inspired by the colour challenge palette at Tando Creative and the monthly sketch from C'est Magnifique kits.





I'll have to say bye for now to put my little one to bed, but I'm thinking I'll be back tomorrow to add my inspiration text into this post, and a few words about it, in case someone'd like to read it!

Anyway, it's from one of the Weetzie Bat books by Francesca Lia Block. Before travelling to Los Angeles this spring I looked up stories that are set in that city, and the Weetzie Bat series came up in many recommendations. I'm not through with all the books yet, but in my opinion they do seem to capture the spirit and essence of L.A. really well!

Quick Travel Journal Spread

Happy Monday, and Happy May! I promised in my last post to show a super quick journal spread made with only the products I included in my Travel Journal Kit, so here it goes! Oh, one thing that I don't have in my kit is the gesso, but I typically prepare the pages a bit in advance so that was not necessary to have on the road.



I'm not a very confident drawer or watercolourist, and it's not always easy to think up things to draw or paint. So I quite like the idea I did here: clipped a magazine image I liked and tried to repeat it in painting. I'm really happy how it turned out!

Like the Travel Journal Kit post, this spread was originally made for Allt om Scrap DT and is from last year already. So if you wondered if we're still not having spring in Finland - oh yes, we do! It came unusually early this year, too.

Summer of Color, Week 6: Raspberry, Tangerine and Lemon

Hello! We're having a record heat wave here in Finland and I've been spending almost every spare moment outside in the shade or on a beach, so I'm a bit behind in updating update my projects. This painting is for the last palette of the Summer of Color challenge that closed a week ago. I was instantly inspired by the colours: Raspberry, Tangerine and a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Lemon!

From a drawing guide book, I'd gotten the idea to practice drawing outlines only and wanted to give it a try. I first sketched the outlines of the Orange Daylilies and painted them tangerine orange with acrylics. The lemon yellow is in the handwriting in the background. I wrote the names of the flower in different languages, and then painted over it all with the colour raspberry, in watercolour. In this technique, you need to use acrylics for what you paint first, so that it won't bleed when getting wet again.

I'm also linking this another inspiration, namely last week's Take a Word Challenge: Silhouttes. And I'll be back later to add the credits for the book I referred to!



Hei, ja huh hellettä! Tässä alkaa olla monta työtä päivittämättä, kun on tehnyt mieli viettää kaikki liikenevä aika rannoilla tai pihan varjoissa. Nämä rusopäivänliljat maalasin Summer of Color -haasteen viimeiselle viikolle, jossa värien nimet olivat mandariini, vadelma ja sitruuna. Luonnostelin kukkien ääriviivat ja maalasin ne akryyliväreillä. Keltaisen osuus on tausta, johon kirjoitin käsin kukan nimeä eri kielillä. Lopuksi maalasin kaiken päältä vesiväreillä vadelmanpunaisella. Tässä tekniikassa nsimmäinen vaihe tulee maalata nimenomaan akryyliväreillä, jotta väri ei leviä kastuessaan uudelleen!

Fiskarettes DT: Rain, Go Away! - Nyt riittää sade

Hello everyone, and happy July! We've had a super rainy and cold month of June here in Finland. I do enjoy rainy days when I can stay inside and be cozy, perhaps crafting, if I'm lucky! In between the showers, I also love to pop outside in the garden to admire all the different shades of green and blue and grey. That was my inspiration for this quick art journal page, where most of the papers I used for the clouds are cut from magazines.

I used my Fiskars Cloud Squeeze Punch (Large) for the clouds in this DT project for the Fiskarettes Finland site.

That said, now it's definitely about time for a merrier weather!



A4-kokoinen art journal -sivu syntyi nopeasti, kun olin maalannut sivun vesiväreillä aiemmin päivällä. Viileinä sadepäivinä on ollut mukavaa möllöttää mökissä muun muassa askarrellen, ja ulkona ilma on raikas ja luonto vehreimmillään. Nyt kuitenkin olisi jo auringon ja lämmön aika!

Sadepäivän harmaan, sinisen ja vihreän monet sävyt olivat joka tapauksessa inspiraationa tälle sivulle. Pilvet syntyivät pääasiassa kierrätykseen menevistä lehdistä, Fiskarsin kahvaleikkuria käyttäen. DT-postaukseni löytyy täältä!

Summer of Color, Week 2: Coral, Teal and White

Hello again, and happy Sunday! I hope everyone’s enjoyed their Midsummer and Summer Solstice. Here’s my last day participation to Summer of Color, week 2: Coral, Teal and a Splash, Smudge or Pop of White. I thought of crabs the minute I saw the colour palette, and am super glad I had time to finish my piece. I’m also glad to have tried watercolour painting, which is a fairly uncommon medium to me. I’m more of a scrapbooker and mixed media collage maker usually! Getting to try something new is one of the best things in joining online challenges, I think.

Juhannuksen vietolta en ehtinyt aiemmin maalailemaan, mutta onneksi ehdin näin viime hetkessä mukaan Summer of Color -haasteen toiseen viikkotehtävään, jossa väripalettina on korallinpunainen, tumma turkoosi ja ripaus valkoista. Ajattelin heti rapuja, kun näin väriyhdistelmän, ja onneksi ehdin tänään tarttua toimeen! Olen iloinen, kun maalasin pitkästä aikaa vesiväreillä. Tavallisesti olen enemmän skräppääjä ja mixed media -kollaasien tekijä. Haasteissa onkin parasta juuri se, jos ne innostavat kokeilemaan jotain uutta!

Summer of Color, Week 1: Aqua, Yellow and Pink

Yay, it's Summer of Color again! This super fun color challenge is open to all sorts of crafts. There's a new color scheme each Monday for six weeks from now. The first week's palette is Aqua Blue, Yellow and a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Pink. I made a Gothic Arch card with a star and my chosen media is mixed media collage.



Moikka, ja hyvää kesäsunnuntaita kaikille! Tällä viikolla käynnistyi kiva kesäinen värihaaste Summer of Color, johon otin ensi kerran osaa viime kesänä. Uusi väripaletti ilmestyy aina maanantaisin kuuden viikon ajan. Ensimmäisen viikon värit ovat vedensininen, keltainen ja pilkahdus pinkkiä, ja niistä syntyi tällainen kaari-ikkunan muotoinen mixed media -kortti. Mixed Media Hearts for Design Memory Craft Challenge

Happy Valentine's Day again, with one more project! This is for the Valentine's Day themed challenge at Design Memory Craft. As usually, all kinds of projects are allowed in this challenge, and I wanted to make a three-dimensional one for a change. I had these pre-made cardboard hearts to decorate, and started by painting over the kraft coloured figures with several layers of white gesso.



Välillä on hauskaa tehdä jotain kolmiulotteista, ja ajattelin, että voisihan ystävänpäivää vartenkin olla oma pieni koristeensa. Design Memory Craftin haasteet ovat avoimia kaiken sorttisille projekteille, ja päätin osallistua ystävänpäiväaiheiseen haasteeseen tekemällä koristeen valmiista pahvipohjasydämistä. Maalasin ne ensin pariin kertaan gessolla peittääkseni ruskean taustavärin.

This was the first time I tried a Stamper's Big Brush Pen for the exact purpose of stamping, and it worked out really well. The pattern did not print perfectly, though, because of the uneven surface, but I don't mind that in a background .

I coloured the corners with Art Grip Aquarelle pencils and gave one heart a bit more of a pink shade. I took some used postage stamps with flowers, mounted them on small pieces of black dot patterned paper and used a piece of washi tape behind the images.



Big Brush -tussit on tarkoitettu myös leimailukäyttöön, ja kokeilin niitä nyt ensi kertaa siihen. Hyvin toimii! Kuviota ei tullut tasaisesti kaikkialle, koska sydämen reunat ovat hieman kohollaan, mutta minua ei pieni epätasaisuus taustassa haittaa ollenkaan.

Väritin Art Grip -vesivärikynillä reunat ja toista sydäntä vähän keskeltäkin. Vesisäiliösivellin on tosi kätevä vesivärikynän jäljen levittämiseen; sitä käyttäessä ei tarvitse erillistä sivellintä ja vesiastiaa.

The hearts had brown strings too short to hang them like I wanted to, so I attached a longer black ribbon by sewing some stitches and using some Tacky Glue to make sure it sticks. Finally I glued a small red crystal bead to cover the ends of the ribbon.



Sydänten keskelle löytyi kuviksi pari kukka-aiheista postimerkkiä, joiden taustalle laitoin palaset pilkullista mustanruskeaa paperia ja pätkän washiteippiä. Alkuperäiset ripustusnauhat olivat liian lyhyet, joten lisäsin mustan ripustusnauhan muutamalla pistolla alkuperäiseen ripustimeen ommellen, ja varmuuden vuoksi kiinnitin vielä nauhan päät tujakalla Tacky Glue -liimalla. Lopuksi peitin nauhan päät punaisella kristallihelmellä. Ja näin ovikoriste on valmis!

My One Word for 2014: Now

After several weeks with no time for scrapbooking, I was really excited to make this last minute layout with three challenges in mind!

First of all, the Berry71bleu challenge was to choose one word to represent one's hopes and goals for the new year. I had many good words on my mind but settled finally for the word Now. For me, it includes many of the other words and ideas I considered first. It can mean being more present, listening to others more, enjoying the moment and not leaving so many things for later.

For a while already, I’d been wanting to try making the layout title from the photo itself. Now I had a short title in mind, so I decided to give it a try and took some photos just for this purpose one morning on my way from home. I’m quite happy with how it turned out! There was more room for embellishments and yet more empty space left than usually, when both the photo and the title take up a lot of the space.

Olipa kivaa skräpätä monen viikon tauon jälkeen, ja ehdin jopa viime hetkellä mukaan kolmeen haasteeseen, joita silmällä pitäen tämän leiskan tein!

Berry71bleun haasteen aiheena oli uuden vuoden toiveita tai tavoitteita kuvaava yksi sana. Pohdin montaa sanaa, joita yhdisti halu olla enemmän läsnä, nauttia hetkestä, tulla paremmaksi kuuntelijaksi ja jättää vähemmän asioita kesken. Sitten keksin sanan Nyt, ja se tuntui heti oikealta, koska minusta siinä yhdistyy kaikki edellä mainitut mietteeni.

Kun otsikko oli kerrankin valmiiksi päätetty ja lyhyt, oli hyvä tilaisuus kokeilla otsikon leikkaamista valokuvasta, mitä olen halunnut kokeilla jo jonkin aikaa. Olen aika tyytyväinen lopputulokseen! Sivulle jäi tavallista helpommin tilaa koristeille ja silti myös avaruutta, kun ei tarvinnut varata tilaa sekä kuvalle että otsikolle.
At Scrap Africa, the challenge theme was one of my favourites: recycling. On my layout, the main recycled thing is the large flower made of book pages. I also like to use postage stamps as embellishments, so that's another 2nd hand item!

Scrap African haasteena oli kierrätys, yksi suosikkiaiheeni! Pääasiallinen kierrätysaines tässä on kirjan sivut, joista iso kukka on tehty. Tykkään käyttää myös käytettyjä postimerkkejä, joten niitäkin pääsi mukaan pari kappaletta koristeeksi.
Last but not least, I'm also entering the 123 Get Scrappy challenge, with the bingo row of old book page, the colour blue and stars! Once I started adding the stars I almost couldn’t stop, because I realized I had so many nice ones and all very different.

Tähtiä tulikin montaa sorttia, kun muistin aina vain lisää jotain erilaista kivaa koristetta. Joitain niistä, kuten noita Facebook-kirppikseltä hankittuja puunappeja en ollut vielä aiemmin käyttänytkään!

Male Scrappers Theme at AoS: Scraplifting Eoghann Mayfair, Lord of Scrap

Do you know any scrapbooking men? I must admit that I didn't, though there actually are some. And today at Allt om Scrap there's a chance to get to know two of them! They are known by their artist names, Eoghann Mayfair from France and Charlemagne G Gargalicano (Charllie) from the Philippines.

I chose to scraplift from Eoghann, also called the Lord of Scrap, from his series of tags called Le Jardin, la Nuit (The Garden at Night in English).



These are Eoghann's original tags. I was particularly inspired his grandiose baroque flowers and his use of dark, strong colours together with the contrasting white.

Monthly Design Challenge at Allt om Scrap: Doodling

Hi again! I hope you've all had a good start for the new year. Here in Finland, the sun and snow have finally appeared after many weeks of cloudy, rainy weather, so that definitely cheers us up! And today, there's a really fun new challenge up at Allt om Scrap, with the theme of Doodling! The challenge is open for participation until February 19, 2014.

When I started my layout, I knew right away which photos I was going to choose. The patterns of the swing, the climber and their shadows on the ground reminded me of doodle patterns and inspired me to try my own. For the lettering, I found examples in artist Martha Lever's blog. The doodle around the photo is inspired by Zentangle® patterns Arc Flower and Bunzo, to which you can find step-by-step guides here.



Doodling is a lot of fun, and if you think it's difficult or find it hard to start, remember that the style originates in what almost everyone has done sometimes: thoughtless drawings you make when speaking on the phone, in class or during a meeting! There are tons of examples to be found on the internet, but I'd also really like to find a good guidebook on doodling, especially the lettering part. Here is one that I found, with Martha Lever as one of the contributors: Creative Lettering: Techniques & Tips from Top Artists, written by Jenny Doh and published by Lark Crafts, 2013. If you can recommend one, I'd really like to know!

Hei taas! Toivottavasti uusi vuosi on alkanut hyvin. Aurinko ja luminen maisema antavat ainakin hurjasti iloa ja energiaa monen sateisen, pimeän viikon jälkeen!

Tänään on Allt om Scrapissa uusi kuukausihaaste ja teemana doodlailu. Jos sana ei vielä ole jollekin tuttu, niin itse asia varmaan on! Kyseessä on siis piirtelytyyli, jonka lähtökohtana on kaikenlainen rento muissa mietteissä raapustelu esimerkiksi puhelimessa, luennolla tai kokouksissa. Doodlailut itsessään eivät yleensä ole esittäviä, mutta niitä voi käyttää myös esittävien piirrosten "täyttämiseen" tai värittämiseen.

Kuvat tähän leiskaan oli helppo valita, sillä keinu ja kiipeilyteline sekä niiden varjot toivat mieleeni piirrellyt kuviot ja innostivat kokeilemaan itse. Kirjaimiin katsoin mallia Martha Lever -nimisen taiteilijan blogista. Tältä Zentangle® -piirustuksen kootulta ohjesivustolta löytyy puolestaan runsaasti kuviomalleja ohjeineen. Valokuvia kehystävät koukerot ovat yhdistelmä malleista nimeltä Arc Flower ja Bunzo.

Hakusanalla "doodling" löytyy valtavasti esimerkkejä netistä, mutta minun tekisi mieli hankkia aiheesta myös jokin kirja. Erityisesti minua kiinnostaisi oppia noita kirjaintyylejä lisää. Watercolour Theme at Allt om Scrap

Watercolours and mists are the theme of week at Allt om Scrap. I made my background with a technique where you first paint the paper, let it partly dry and then wipe some of the colour away through a stencil. Baby wipes are the best for this!

Allt om Scrap -sivuston viikon teema on vesivärit ja mistit. Tein taustan tekniikalla, jossa paperi ensin maalataan ja annetaan hieman kuivua. Sitten poistetaan osa maalista sabluunan läpi pyyhkimällä. Vauvan puhdistuspyyhkeet sopivat mainiosti tähän, kuten moneen muuhunkin askartelijan käyttöön!

Dare to Set Goals: An Art Journal Page

This journal page is inspired by the Design Memory Craft challenge with the following question: "What one important lesson have you learnt this year so far or what one theme has stood out for you?" I decided on the theme of daring and particularly, daring to set concrete goals.

Daring to dream is really important, but at some point one needs to think out ways to make those dreams come true, too! And figure out which dreams I wish to fulfill in the next year or three, and which ones can happily wait till later on. Not all dreams need to come true, I think. It's better to have too many than too few!



Unelmista tavoitteiksi

Tämän art journal -aukeaman lähtökohtana oli Design Memory Craft -haasteen esittämä kysymys, minkä tärkeän viisauden on oppinut kuluneen vuoden aikana. Itse halusin tässä pukea sanoiksi sen, miten on tärkeää uskaltaa muodostaa unelmista myös konkreettisia tavoitteita.

Kaikkien unelmien ei minusta tarvitse toteutua ikinä ja niitä on parempi olla liikaa kuin liian vähän. Mutta ne, joiden haluaa toteutuvan lähitulevaisuudessa, on hyvä muotoilla selkeiksi pyrkimyksiksi.

My favourite journal at the moment is this little 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches Hahnemühle Travel Booklet, which I carry about everywhere. The paper is thick and good, but the only lack I now noticed was that it does not take watercolours very well. I did not have the gesso with me, else I could have started with giving it a coat.

I drew an ornamental circle with watercolour pencils. I found at our cottage an old yellowed plastic doily ugliness that made a great stencil. But when I added water, the paper started to break. When dry, I collaged some stamped paper onto to the most worn out parts of the spread.

When I got home, I gessoed it before applying acrylic paints. The stencil I used here is Honeycomb from The Crafters' Workshop. The ornament stamp came with a magazine, I think, and the one with the leaves is from an unknown origin, while the chevron one is made by me. I added some washi tape, postage stamps and ephemera for the finishing touch and did the lettering with a Promarker.



Tämä pieni (9x14 cm) Hahnemühlen matkakirjanen kulkee minulla melkein kaikkialle, joten siihen tulee myös tehtyä enemmän kuin suurempiin. Ostin noita Temperasta kahden pakkauksissa. Linkki on Helsingin Uudenmaankadun myymälään, sillä heidän verkkokaupastaan en tätä tuotetta löytänyt.

Mökiltä löytynyt rumilus, muovinen pitsiliina, oli hyvä piirustussabluuna vesivärikynille. Paperi on paksua ja hyvän tuntuista, mutta vesiväri olisi vaatinut gessokerroksen alleen. Vesi alkoi kuluttaa paperia rikki, joten lisäsin niihin kohtiin leimattua paperia. Gessoa levitin tähän väliin ennen akryylimaaleja.

Akryyleilla sabluunana oli The Crafters' Workshopin Honeycomb. Lehtileimasimen valmistajaa en tiedä, ja nuolileimasin on itse tehty. Kirjoitin viisaudet Promarker-tussilla ja viimeistelin aukeaman washiteipillä ja muutamalla postimerkillä.

Purple Kimono & Green Turtle ATCs

Hi all! These ATCs are for a swap of monochromatic cards. The folks I made them for chose the colours and the themes. The kimono and the turtle were nice, easy to draw subjects which I then cut and pasted on another paper. I did the outlines with a Promarker (purple) and a slightly finer Adirondack marker (green).

The background of the Kimono is painted with watercolours and that of the Turtle with acrylics.

This is a super fast way to make cards that are cool nevertheless. I think they turn out best if at least some of your papers are hand painted or decorated. A good way to use to last scraps of previous projects!

Last but not least, I just heard of a free workshop for everyone who loves colours. Summer of Color 2013 is a free blog event to celebrate all the colours of the rainbow, and lasts for six weeks starting Monday, June 3rd. Right now there's a vote going on about the first colour combo. There's a new challenge and new prizes every week, so it's really worth taking a look!



ATC-vaihto yhden värin sävyillä

Nämä ATC-kortit tein vaihtoon, jonka aiheena oli monokromaattiset kortit. Saaja sai toivoa värin ja aiheen. Kimono ja kilpikonna olivat mukavan helppoja piirtää ja leikata paperista ja liimata taustalle. Ääriviivat vahvistin tusseilla.

Kimonokortin tausta on maalattu vesiväreillä ja kilpikonnan akryyliväreillä.

Tämä on tosi helppo ja nopea tekniikka, jolla syntyy silti tyylikkäät kortit. Parhaiten niistä saa persoonallisen näköisiä, jos ainakin osaksi käyttää käsin maalattuja papereita. Sopii silppulaatikon aarteita rakastaville!

Lopuksi suosittelen kaikille värien ja värihaasteiden ystäville ilmaista workshoppia nimeltä Summer of Color 2013. Se on juuri alkanut ja parhaillaan on äänestys ensimmäisen haasteen väriyhdistelmästä. Uusi värihaaste palkintoineen on tarjolla viikottain, joten kannattaa kurkata!

Embossing Powders with Stencils

Here I wanted to experiment a bit with embossing powders and stencils, inspired by the stencils I bought at last weekend's craft event in Helsinki, Intohimona Skräppäys (meaning Passionate about Scrapbooking in English). There were so many to choose from that it was hard to pick my favourites!

The host of this fabulous event, Askartelu Amalia, also has a monthly challenge blog. These pieces are my submission for April, with the theme of embossing powders.

For the envelope, I used clear embossing powder and white for the card. The pattern is of course almost invisible at this point, so I painted it in different shades of tube watercolours. The stencil I used is called Mini Honeycomb by The Crafter's Workshop.



Kohojauheilua sabluunalla

Olipas ollut kiireinen kuukausi, kun Amalian haasteblogi oli jäänyt minulta kurkkaamatta kokonaan. Aiheena sattui olemaan uusi innostuksen kohteeni eli kohojauheet, joten päätin ehtiä mattimyöhäisenä mukaan.



Kokeilin tähän ekaa kertaa kohojauhetta nimenomaan sabluunan kanssa. Olin toivonut löytäväni viime viikonlopun Intohimona Skräppäys -tapahtumasta jokusen sabluunan, ja valinnanvaraa olikin niin paljon, että suosikkieni valinta ei ollut ihan helppoa!

Tuputin siis embossausmusteen taustalle sabluunan läpi, jolloin kohojauhetta tulee sabluunan aukkokohtiin. Paperinauhan ständiltä ostamani sabluuna on The Crafter's Workshopin Mini Honeycomb.

Kirjekuoressa käytin läpinäkyvää kohojauhetta ja kortissa valkoista. Sitten maalasin kohojauheen päältä tuubivesiväreillä, mikä toi melkein näkymättömän kuvion kivasti näkyviin. Jokohan kohta olisi omenankukkien aika!
